چکیده

Information Geometry generalizes to infinite dimension by modeling the tangent space of the relevant manifold of probability densities with exponential Orlicz spaces. We review here several properties of the exponential manifold on a suitable set E of mutually absolutely continuous densities. We study in particular the fine properties of the Kullback-Liebler divergence in this context. We also show that this setting is well-suited for the study of the spatially homogeneous Boltzmann equation if E is a set of positive densities with finite relative entropy with respect to the Maxwell density. More precisely, we analyze the Boltzmann operator in the geometric setting from the point of its Maxwell’s weak form as a composition of elementary operations in the exponential manifold, namely tensor product, conditioning, marginalization and we prove in a geometric way the basic facts, i.e., the H-theorem. We also illustrate the robustness of our method by discussing, besides the Kullback-Leibler divergence, also the property of Hyvärinen divergence. This requires us to generalize our approach to Orlicz–Sobolev spaces to include derivatives.

Second Order Scheme for the Spatially Homogeneous Boltzmann Equation with Maxwellian Molecules

In the standard approach, particle methods for the Boltzmann equation are obtained using an explicit time discretization of the spatially homogeneous Boltzmann equation. This kind of discretization leads to a restriction on the discretization parameter as well as on the diierential cross section in the case of the general Boltzmann equation. Recently, it was shown, how to construct an implicit ...

Smoothness of the solution of the spatially homogeneous Boltzmann equation without cutoff

For regularized hard potentials cross sections, the solution of the spatially homogeneous Boltzmann equation without angular cutoff lies in Schwartz’s space S(RN ). The proof is presented in full detail for the two-dimensional case, and for a moderate singularity of the cross section. Then we present those parts of the proof for the general case, where the dimension, or the strength of the sing...

Upper Maxwellian Bounds for the Spatially Homogeneous Boltzmann Equation

For the spatially homogeneous Boltzmann equation with cutoff hard potentials it is shown that solutions remain bounded from above, uniformly in time, by a Maxwellian distribution, provided the initial data have a Maxwellian upper bound. The main technique is based on a comparison principle that uses a certain dissipative property of the linear Boltzmann equation. Implications of the technique t...

The Gevrey Hypoellipticity for Linear and Non-linear Fokker-planck Equations

Recently, a lot of progress has been made on the study for the spatially homogeneous Boltzmann equation without angular cutoff, cf. [2, 3, 8, 22] and references therein, which shows that the singularity of collision cross-section yields some gain of regularity in the Sobolev space frame on weak solutions for Cauchy problem. That means, this gives the C regularity of weak solution for the spatia...
