Acinetobacter baumannii: Factors Involved in its High Adaptability to Adverse Environmental Conditions

ثبت نشده
چکیده

Acinetobacter baumannii has emerged as one of the WHO most dangerous pathogens hit-list and considered a priority of the Public Health Services worldwide. It can cause a wide range of opportunistic infections, typically involving ventilatorassociated pneumonia, septicaemia and surgical wound infections mainly in immunocompromised patients [1]. The general morbidity and mortality rates of infections caused by Acinetobacter baumannii are similar to those of MRSA and that’s why it has been termed the gram-negative MRSA.

Virulence Factors of Acinetobacter baumannii Environmental Isolates and Their Inhibition by Natural Zeolite

Acinetobacter baumannii is an emerging human pathogen causing great concern in hospital environment over the last two decades. A. baumannii expresses the resistance to multiple antibiotics as well as disinfectants, and survives in adverse conditions, leading to long-term persistence in the hospital environment (Espinal et al., 2012; Towner, 2009). Additionally, virulence factors that influence ...

Molecular Analysis of the Isolates of Acinetobacter baumannii isolated from Tehran Hospitals Using ERIC-PCR Method

Background and Objective: Acinetobacter is a genus of non-fermenting Gram-negative cocci or coccobacilli, which have low nutritional requirements for growth and can survive for a long time in adverse conditions, on dry surfaces, and also in aqueous environments. The importance of the members of Acinetobacter genus as pathogens involved in nosocomial infections, is increasing. Acinetobacter baum...

Comparative in silico analyses of proteins involved in serum resistance as promising vaccine candidates against Acinetobacter baumannii

Introduction: Acinetobacter baumannii as a Gram-negative coccobacillus has become a major cause of hospital-acquired infections. The virulence factors involved in serum resistance are important targets in the development of an effective vaccine against this pathogen. Our aim in this project was in silico analyses of A. baumannii proteins involved in serum resistance which could potentially be u...

genetic determinants of intrinsic colistin tolerance in Acinetobacter baumannii.

Acinetobacter baumannii is a leading cause of multidrug-resistant infections worldwide. This organism poses a particular challenge due to its ability to acquire resistance to new antibiotics through adaptation or mutation. This study was undertaken to determine the mechanisms governing the adaptability of A. baumannii to the antibiotic colistin. Screening of a transposon mutant library identifi...

Evaluation of growth inhibition activity of myxobacterial extracts against multi-drug resistant Acinetobacter baumannii

The worldwide dissemination of multi drug resistant Acinetobacter baumannii strains has caused serious concern and high rate of mortality in recent decades that originate from limited effective antibiotics in the treatment of A. baumannii infections. Myxobacteria are Gram-negative bacteria that are important for their complex lifestyle and production of novel structurally secondary metabolites ...
