چکیده

Low Voltage Direct Current (LVDC) distribution is considered as one of the new promising technologies for better integration of distributed generation, and supplying local loads in more efficient way compare to AC systems. However, DC protection is still considered as one of the outstanding challenges that holds back the wide deployment of LVDC in last mile utility applications. Most of existing DC solutions have been developed for specific applications such as data centres, PV systems, electric ships, and traction systems. However, their suitability for providing a good level of protection and safety for an LVDC last mile public network is still not fully understood. Therefore, this paper evaluates the performances of a wide number of DC protection solutions that have been proposed for the applications on an active LVDC last mile distribution network with local generation sources (including PVs and battery storages). Based on the findings, recommendations of LVDC protection for resilient operation are presented in the paper.

Fault Detection in Ring Based Smart LVDC Microgrid Using Ensemble of Decision Tree

In modern infrastructure, the demand for DC power-based appliances is rapidly increasing, and this phenomenon has created a positive impact on the acceptance of the DC microgrid. However, due to numerous issues such as the absence of zero crossing, bidirectional behaviour of sources, and different magnitudes of fault current during grid connected and islanded modes of operation, protecting DC m...

Development of Fault Detector for Series Arc Fault in Low Voltage DC Distribution System using Wavelet Singular Value Decomposition and State Diagram

It is well known that series arc faults in Low Voltage DC (LVDC) distribution system occur at unintended points of discontinuity within an electrical circuit. These faults can make circuit breakers not respond timely due to low fault current. It, therefore, is needed to detect the series fault for protecting circuits from electrical fires. This paper proposes a novel scheme to detect the series...

Voltage Equalization of DC Link capacitors in a CHB-Based PET under the Unbalance Voltage Conditions

The unbalance currents injection by power electronic transformers in order to improve the unbalance voltage conditions of the network causes an imbalanced voltage in the DC link capacitors and creates an active powers inequality in the different phases. In this paper, the proposed control structure independently controls the active power of each phase by modifying the power angle between the vo...

Protecting the last mile – enabling an LVDC distribution network

Traditional distribution power systems are facing numbers of changes. The major aspects that may influence the shape of the changes include: the connection of small scale renewable and advanced distributed energy resources, the deployment of demand side controls, and the supply of more heat and transport demands. But, because distribution systems have been designed and operated with very limite...
