Greenhouse Protected Agriculture of Vegetable Crops at the University of Florida : An Overview
نویسندگان
چکیده
The Florida vegetable industry relies heavily on plasticulture technologies from the transplant nursery through the packing house and market chain. The value of the Florida vegetable industry has consistently risen while the acreage has declined for many commodities. The use of greenhouse technologies for high-valued crops is an alternative method of crop production that would compliment the current industry while answering several of the many challenges that have caused acreage to decline. Greenhouse protected agriculture technology allows production in less desirable locations using sustainable irrigation methods and low use of chemicals via integrated pest management methods. The University of Florida Protected Agriculture Project researches the process of greenhouse vegetable production with key focus for Florida growers.

Abstract Model Greensys2007
The primary arthropod pests associated with greenhouse vegetable production in Florida are: broadmites, spider mites, thrips, aphids, and whiteflies. The primary disease is powdery mildew. The objective of this research was to identify pesticide-free control measures of the most common arthropod pests of the Florida greenhouse vegetable industry and to recycle water and nutrients, safely withou...

Tomato is one of the main vegetable crops in Kuwait with a total greenhouse production of 39,218.3 tonnes and with a value of $ 9.58 million in 2004. Because of the country’s harsh climate, scarce water resources and poor-quality land resources, protected agriculture has a significant role in Kuwait’s agricultural development. Tomato is grown in 25% of total area under greenhouse crops and it p...

This research aimed to determine the effects of different cover crops and application ofbio-fertilizer on dynamic of nitrogen in the soil and sweet maize yield. Also, we evaluated theeffect of fall–winter species (common vetch, field pea, winter oats, fodder kale) and a mixtureof vetch and field pea with oats used as cover crops, as such as dead organic mulch andtraditional variant, without cov...
