Predictive Control of Nitrogen Removal in Wwtps Using Parsimonious Models

چکیده
In the paper, control possibilities for the nitrogen removal process within activated sludge wastewater treatment plants are discussed. A predictive controller is introduced which aims to reduce the peaks in effluent concentration for ammonia nitrogen. Additionally, the controller improves the overall nitrogen removal using less aeration energy. A parsimonious deterministic model is used for the prediction of the effluent ammonia concentration. The main parameter of the model is used for the model adaptation. The performance of the developed controller is evaluated using a benchmark simulation model of a treatment plant introduced by an international work group. Copyright ©

Technical Performance and Environmental Effects of the Treated Effluent of Wastewater Treatment Plants in the Shenzhen Bay Catchment, China
Technical performance and effluent environmental impact of seven wastewater treatment plant (WWTPs) in the Shenzhen Bay Catchment, China were examined. All WWTPs had good performance in the removal of chemical oxygen demand, biochemical oxygen demand, and suspended solids, while total nitrogen and total phosphorus removal should be enhanced to improve the comprehensive pollutants removal loadin...
متن کاملElucidation of major contributors involved in nitrogen removal and transcription level of nitrogen-cycling genes in activated sludge from WWTPs
We investigated nitrogen-cycle bacterial communities in activated sludge from 8 municipal wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs). Redundancy analyses (RDA) showed that temperature was the most significant driving force in shaping microbial community structure, followed by influent NH4+ and total nitrogen (TN). The diversity of ammonia oxidizing and nitrite reducing bacteria were investigated by th...

The degree and importance of automation at municipal wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) have increased with the development of technology and tightening of treatment requirements. The objective of this paper is to assess and document the current status of process automation at WWTPs in Finland to determine successful practices and the needs of plant operators. Renewing ammonia or organic conte...
متن کاملPartial Nitritation/anammox and Canon – Nitrogen Removal Systems Followed by Conductivity Measurements
The deammonification process is a new biological promising method for a separate treatment of ammonium-rich digester supernatant. Its application can significantly reduce the nitrogen load in Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTPs). The method is a two-step process and it can be accomplished in two separate stages (partial nitritation and Anammox) or in a singe one (CANON). Both these systems were ...
متن کاملBiological Phosphorus and Nitrogen Removal from Wastewater Using Moving Bed Biofilm Process
In this research, an experimental study to evaluate nutrient removal from synthetic wastewater by a lab-scale moving bed biofilm process was investigated. Also, kinetic analysis of the process with regard to phosphorus and nitrogen removal was studied with different mathematical models. For nutrient removal, the moving bed biofilm process was applied in series with anaerobic, anoxic and aerobic...
