چکیده

This paper deals with image processing for automatic analysis of pigmented skin lesions. A special emphasis is put on pigmented networks in epiluminescence microscopy (ELM) images. The purpose of processing images with pigmented skin lesions is the visualisation for education and training as well as for diagnosis support. We use a colour based segmentation applied to the Karhunen-Lo eve transform of the RGB colour vectors to separate pigmented lesions from the skin and proceed with histogram equalisation and greyscale morphology to enhance and lter the pigmented networks. We demonstrate that we can enhance pigmented networks in skin lesions visually, and make them accessible to further analysis and classiication.

Evaluation of the efficacy of the Q switched ruby laser in the treatment of benign pigmented skin lesions

Background and aim: It is possible to use light sources suxh as lasers to destruct melanosomes and treat pigmented skin lesions. One of the most commonly used laser systems is Q switched ruby laser with a wave-length of 694 nm. This study was performed to evaluate the efficacy of the Q switched ruby laser in the treatment of pigmented skin lesions including lentigines (simplex or solar) and caf...

Automated diagnosis of pigmented skin lesions.

Since advanced melanoma remains practically incurable, early detection is an important step toward a reduction in mortality. High expectations are entertained for a technique known as dermoscopy or epiluminescence light microscopy; however, evaluation of pigmented skin lesions by this method is often extremely complex and subjective. To obviate the problem of qualitative interpretation, methods...

A Case Report of Progressive Dysphagia and Pigmented Oral and Skin Lesions: Esophageal Lichen Planus

Lichen planus (LP) is a relatively uncommon, chronic inflammatory disease with idiopathic pathogenesis that usually involves skin, nails, and mucous membranes. Esophageal involvement in LP is rarely seen, despite the classification of the esophagus as a mucous membrane. Esophageal lichen planus is common in middle aged women, with symptoms such as dysphagia and odynophagia. This paper presents ...

Reliability of computer image analysis of pigmented skin lesions of Australian adolescents.

BACKGROUND The diagnosis of melanomas at an early stage is associated with improved survival, so the recognition of changes in pigmented skin lesions over time is important. We have developed a computer imaging system with the aim of assisting clinicians in differentiating early melanomas from benign pigmented skin lesions. The objective of this study was to investigate the system's reliability...

Brown Discoloration on the Face

Case: A 54-year-old woman was visited with a history of asymptomatic gray-brown discoloration of the facial skin at our dermatology clinic. The lesions first appeared on her chin and then became progressively darker and extended to her nose and, to a lesser extent, to the periphery of her face over a period of five years. She mentioned that the lesions worsened with heat and sun exposure. Her p...
