چکیده
We report the direct measurement of orbital period decay in the double neutron star pulsar system PSR B2127+11C in the globular cluster M15 at the rate of (−3.95± 0.13)× 10, consistent with the prediction of general relativity at the ∼ 3% level. We find the pulsar mass to be mp = (1.358 ± 0.010)M⊙ and the companion mass mc = (1.354 ± 0.010)M⊙. We also report long-term pulse timing results for the pulsars PSR B2127+11A and PSR B2127+11B, including confirmation of the cluster proper motion. Orbital Decay of the PSR J0045-7319 Binary System: Age of Radio Pulsar and Initial Spin of Neutron Star
Recent timing observations of PSR J0045-7319 reveal that the neutron star/B star binary orbit is decaying on a time scale of |Porb/Ṗorb| = 0.5 Myr, shorter than the characteristic age (τc = 3 Myr) of the pulsar (Kaspi et al. 1996a). We study mechanisms for the orbital decay. The standard weak friction theory based on static tide requires far too short a viscous time to explain the observed Ṗorb...
متن کاملJ 1756 − 2251 : a new relativistic double neutron star system
We report the discovery during the Parkes Multibeam Pulsar Survey of PSR J1756−2251, a 28.5 ms pulsar in a relativistic binary system. Subsequent timing observations showed the pulsar to have an orbital period of 7.67 hrs and an eccentricity of 0.18. They also revealed a significant advance of periastron, 2.585± 0.002 deg. yr. Assuming this is entirely due to general relativity implies a total ...
متن کاملOn the Eccentricities and Merger Rates of Double Neutron Star Binaries and the Creation of “double Supernovae”
We demonstrate that a natural consequence of an asymmetric kick imparted to neutron stars at birth is that the majority of double neutron star binaries should possess highly eccentric orbits. This leads to greatly accelerated orbital decay, due to the enormous increase in the emission of gravitational radiation at periastron as originally demonstrated by Peters (1964). A uniform distribution of...
متن کاملX-ray Emission from the Double Neutron Star Binary B1534+12: Powered by the Pulsar Wind?
We report the detection of the double neutron star binary (DNSB) B1534+12 (= J1537+1155) with the Chandra X-ray Observatory. This DNSB (Porb = 10.1 hr) consists of the millisecond (recycled) pulsar J1537+1155A (PA = 37.9 ms) and a neutron star not detected in the radio. After the remarkable double pulsar binary J0737−3039, it is the only other DNSB detected in X-rays. We measured the flux of (2...

We have made timing observations of binary pulsar PSR B1534+12 with radio telescopes at Arecibo, Green Bank, and Jodrell Bank. By combining our new observations with data collected up to seven years earlier, we obtain a significantly improved solution for the astrometric, spin, and orbital parameters of the system. For the first time in any binary pulsar system, no fewer than five relativistic ...
