The Modar Supercritical Water Process: a Cost Effective Method for Oxidation of Dilute Organic Waste

چکیده

The MODAR process uses supercritical water, heated above 374OC and pressurized above 220 atm, as a medium for the rapid and complete oxidation of organic compounds to carbon dioxide, water and inorganic salts. The destruction efficiencies achieved exceed 99.99% for a wide range of compounds including chlorinated solvents and PCB’s. The exothermic oxidation reaction produces sufficient energy to provide the heat required for the process and at a sufficiently large scale can provide excess useful energy. Waste composition can range from 100% organic material to very dilute aqueous solutions. The effluent is sewerable water containing less than 0.5 ppm total organic carbon and oxygen depleted air containing CO . Inorganic components of the waste are converted to salts &hich may be removed as potentially delisted solids from the supercritical stream. As an end-of-pipe process it can eliminate the need for hazardous waste disposal.

Continuous Monitoring of Total Organic Carbon Based on Supercritical Water Oxidation Improved by CuSO4 Catalyst

Supercritical water oxidation (SCWO) is a new-fashioned technology of waste treatment proposed by Modell in the 1980s [1]. It can oxidize organic pollutants, difficult to be degraded, efficiently and completely [2] and has received a great deal of attention as an effective and promising treatment method of hazardous organic pollutants [3]. Water is a kind of excellent solvent when the temperatu...

Sub and Supercritical Decontamination of Oil-Based Drill Cuttings: A Review

Drill mud is a fluid which is used in oil extraction industries in order to cool and lubricate the drill bit. Due to containing numerous toxic components, it is considered as a hazardous waste which must be treated before discharging to the environment. Current separation techniques for drill cutting treatment can be categorized into three main categories of physical (dewatering), physiochemica...

Recovery of copper and lead from waste printed circuit boards by supercritical water oxidation combined with electrokinetic process.

An effective and benign process for copper and lead recovery from waste printed circuit boards (PCBs) was developed. In the process, the PCBs was pre-treated in supercritical water, then subjected to electrokinetic (EK) process. Experimental results showed that supercritical water oxidation (SCWO) process was strong enough to decompose the organic compounds of PCBs, and XRD spectra indicated th...
