Humidification in the intensive care unit.

چکیده
In summary, current data indicate that body temperature cannot be controlled efficiently by changing inspired gas temperature. Inspired gas temperature should therefore be maintained at 32 degrees C to 34 degrees C for intubated patients and other efforts should be made to optimize body temperature.

Humidification during Mechanical Ventilation in the Adult Patient
Humidification of inhaled gases has been standard of care in mechanical ventilation for a long period of time. More than a century ago, a variety of reports described important airway damage by applying dry gases during artificial ventilation. Consequently, respiratory care providers have been utilizing external humidifiers to compensate for the lack of natural humidification mechanisms when th...
متن کاملInsufficient Humidification of Respiratory Gases in Patients Who Are Undergoing Therapeutic Hypothermia at a Paediatric and Adult Intensive Care Unit
For cooled newborn infants, humidifier settings for normothermic condition provide excessive gas humidity because absolute humidity at saturation is temperature-dependent. To assess humidification of respiratory gases in patients who underwent moderate therapeutic hypothermia at a paediatric/adult intensive care unit, 6 patients were studied over 9 times. Three humidifier settings, 37-default (...
متن کاملVariability in incubator humidity practices in the management of preterm infants.
AIM To determine current practice and opinion in relation to incubator humidity use in the management of preterm infants in neonatal intensive care units (NICU's) within the Australian and New Zealand Neonatal Network (ANZNN). METHODS A survey was conducted in 26 NICU's in the ANZNN. A senior clinical nurse in each perinatal centre participated in a telephone survey that focused on local humi...
متن کاملArtificial humidification for the mechanically ventilated patient.
Caring for patients who are mechanically ventilated poses many challenges for critical care nurses. It is important to humidify the patient's airways artificially to prevent complications such as ventilator-associated pneumonia. There is no gold standard to determine which type of humidification is best for patients who are artificially ventilated. This article provides an overview of commonly ...
متن کاملA new prototype of an electronic jet-ventilator and its humidification system
BACKGROUND: Adequate humidification in long-term jet ventilation is a critical aspect in terms of clinical safety. AIM: To assess a prototype of an electronic jet-ventilator and its humidification system. METHODS: Forty patients with respiratory insufficiency were randomly allocated to one of four groups. The criterion for inclusion in this study was respiratory insufficiency exhibiting a Murra...
متن کاملDesign and Implementation of a Fuzzy Intelligent System for Predicting Mortality in Trauma Patients in the Intensive Care Unit
Introduction: The intensive care unit is one of the most costly parts of the national health sector. These costs are largely attributable to the length of stay in the intensive care unit. For this reason, there are significant benefits in predicting patients' length of stay and the percentage of deaths in intensive care units. Therefore, in this study, a fuzzy logic based intelligent system was...
