Serotonin 2A receptor and its association with the pathology of schizophrenia

چکیده
Dear Editor: Accumulated evidence suggests that serotonin 2A (5-HT2A) receptors are implicated in the pathology of schizophrenia. However the results remain inconclusive, particularly in the case of binding studies using postmortemtissue. We agreewith Dean's comment that our recent paper (Kang et al., 2009) reported a decrease in the density of [3H] ketanserin binding to the 5-HT2A receptors in the superior temporal gyrus (STG), which supported earlier findings in the planum temporal cortex (Pralong et al., 2000), despite Burnet et al. reporting previously that there was no change in [3H] ketanserin binding in the STG in schizophrenia (Burnet et al., 1996).............

Modeling and interactions analysis of the novel antagonist agent flibanserin with 5-hydroxytryptamine 2A (5-HT2A) serotonin receptor as a HSDD treatment in premenopausal women
Flibanserin is a novel antagonist small molecule to treat the hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) in the premenopausal women. The present article is related to the structural and electronic properties study and docking analysis of the title compound with 5-hydroxytryptamine 2A (5-HT2A) serotonin receptor. To access these aims, the molecular structure of the said compound was optimized usin...
متن کاملHyperprolactinemia and CYP2D6, DRD2 and HTR2C genes polymorphism in patients with schizophrenia
Introduction: Hyperprolactinemia is a common serious side effect of antipsychotic medications that are currently used in the treatment of patients with schizophrenia. Pharmacogenetic approaches offer the possibility of identifying patient-specific biomarkers for predicting the risk of this side effect. We investigated a possible relationship between variants (SNPs) in genes for cytochrome 2D6 (...

Thirty-three Years ago, Gaddum and Picarelli classified the serotonin receptors in the guinea pig ileum into D and M types based on the activity of dibenzyline (D) and morphine (M) to block contractions of intestinal smooth muscle caused by serotonin. The subsequent location of specific ligand binding sites for serotonin in the brain has led to the identification of ten serotonin receptor sub-t...
متن کاملmRNA Expression and DNA Methylation Analysis of Serotonin Receptor 2A (HTR2A) in the Human Schizophrenic Brain
Serotonin receptor 2A (HTR2A) is an important signalling factor implicated in cognitive functions and known to be associated with schizophrenia. The biological significance of HTR2A in schizophrenia remains unclear as molecular analyses including genetic association, mRNA expression and methylation studies have reported inconsistent results. In this study, we examine HTR2A expression and methyl...
متن کاملSerotonin 2A receptor antagonists for treatment of schizophrenia.
INTRODUCTION All approved antipsychotic drugs share an affinity for the dopamine 2 (D(2)) receptor; however, these drugs only partially ameliorate the symptoms of schizophrenia. It is, therefore, of paramount importance to identify new treatment strategies for schizophrenia. AREAS COVERED Preclinical, clinical and post-mortem studies of the serotonin 5-HT(2A) system in schizophrenia are revie...
