Optimizing Computation of Repairs from Active Integrity Constraints

چکیده

Active integrity constraints (AICs) are a form of integrity constraints for databases that not only identify inconsistencies, but also suggest how these can be overcome. The semantics for AICs defines different types of repairs, but deciding whether an inconsistent database can be repaired is a NPor Σ p-complete problem, depending on the type of repairs one has in mind. In this paper, we introduce two different relations on AICs: an equivalence relation of independence, allowing the search to be parallelized among the equivalence classes, and a precedence relation, inducing a stratification that allows repairs to be built progressively. Although these relations have no impact on the worst-case scenario, they can make significant difference in the practical computation of repairs for inconsistent databases.

Declarative Semantics of Production Rules for Integrity Maintenance

The paper presents a declarative semantics for the maintenance of integrity constraints expressed by means of production rules. A production rule is a special form of active rule, called active integrity constraint, whose body contains an integrity constraint (conjunction of literals which must be false) and whose head contains a disjunction of update atoms, i.e. actions to be performed if the ...

Declarative Semantics for Active Integrity Constraints

We study active integrity constraints, a formalism designed to describe integrity constraints on databases and to specify preferred ways to enforce them. The original semantics proposed for active integrity constraints is based on the concept of a founded repair. We point out that groundedness underlying founded repairs does not prevent cyclic justifications and so, may be inappropriate in some...

Grounded Fixpoints and Active Integrity Constraints

The formalism of active integrity constraints was introduced as a way to specify particular classes of integrity constraints over relational databases together with preferences on how to repair existing inconsistencies. The rule-based syntax of such integrity constraints also provides algorithms for finding such repairs that achieve the best asymptotic complexity. However, the different semanti...

Parallel computation framework for optimizing trailer routes in bulk transportation

We consider a rich tanker trailer routing problem with stochastic transit times for chemicals and liquid bulk orders. A typical route of the tanker trailer comprises of sourcing a cleaned and prepped trailer from a pre-wash location, pickup and delivery of chemical orders, cleaning the tanker trailer at a post-wash location after order delivery and prepping for the next order. Unlike traditiona...

M Managing Inconsistent Databases Using Active Integrity Constraints Managing Inconsistent Databases Using Active Integrity Constraints

INTRODUCTION Integrity constraints are a fundamental part of a database schema. They are generally used to define constraints on data (functional dependencies, inclusion dependencies , exclusion dependencies, etc.), and their enforcement ensures a semantically correct state of a database. As the presence of data inconsistent with respect to integrity constraints is not unusual, its management p...
