Using the EN584-1 film characterization in radiographic modelling

چکیده
One of the problems in modelling radiographic inspections concerns the film characteristics as the last step in the radiographic modelling chain, throughout which the energy deposited by the incoming radiation is to be converted to a grey value. This conversion depends not only on the total dose absorbed by the film, but also on the radiation’s spectrum and to a lesser extent also on the incidence angle of the incoming radiation. Models trying to take all or most of these influential parameters into account inevitably lead to complex and proprietary film characterizations, and in particular require information generally not available in the film data sheets provided by the manufacturers. The recent EN584 standard for the classification of film systems for industrial radiography proposes a pragmatic and in many cases sufficient classification in terms of the dose required to obtain optical density 2, and the gradient of an optical density vs. required dose at optical densities 2 and 4. In this paper, we discuss different ways to implement an EN584-compliant film model.

متن کاملSensitometric characteristics of D-, E- and F-speed dental radiographic films in manual and automatic processing
BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the sensitometric characteristics of Ultraspeed, Ektaspeed Plus and Insight dental radiographic films using manual and automatic processing systems. METHODS: In this experimental invitro study, an aluminum step-wedge was used to construct characteristic curves for D-, E- and F-speed radiographic films (Kodak Eastman, Rochester, USA). All fil...
متن کاملPulsed DC- Plasma Assisted Chemical Vapor Deposition of α-rich Nanostructured Tantalum Film: Synthesis and Characterization
This paper is an attempt to synthesize nanostructured tantalum films on medical grade AISI 316L stainless steel (SS) using pulsed DC plasma assisted chemical vapor deposition (PACVD). The impact of duty cycle (17-33%) and total pressure (3-10 torr) were studied using field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), grazing incidence x-ray diffraction (GIXRD), nuclear reaction analysis (NRA)...
متن کاملA study of densitometry comparison among three radiographic processing solutions
ABSTRACT Background: The radiographic image accuracy depends on the X-ray film information visibility. Good visibility is found by good contrast. Radiation exposure parameters (kVp, mAs) and film processing conditions have impact on contrast. In dentistry radiography machines, exposure time and processing procedure are set by radiographer. No optimized exposure time and process...
متن کاملEvaluation of the frequency of intra-oral radiographic errors in dental radiology department in Mashhad
Background and Aims: Dental diagnosis may be affected by the occurrence of the errors in the intra-oral radiographic images and the patients’ treatment plan can be problematic in these cases. The repetition of these radiographs increases the risks of radiation exposure for the patients in turn. The present study assessed the incidences of common periapical radiographic errors taken by dental st...
