چکیده

The performance of DS-UWB and TH-UWB for a single-user link is compared for a data rate of 100 Mbps using the newly proposed, realistic UWB channel model from IEEE P802.15. The performance of suboptimal, fractionally spaced (FS), coherent Rake receivers with a pulse matched filter is evaluated with numerical simulations when different channel estimation algorithms, suitable for coherent detection, are used. The FS-Rake receiver is compared with pulse and symbol spaced Rake receivers and an optimal maximum-likelihood detector. Assuming perfect channel estimates, the FS-Rake receiver causes losses of 1 dB compared with the ML detector. For the FSRake receiver, the best evaluated channel estimation algorithm has a fractional loss compared with the perfect estimated channel. Using this algorithm, DS-UWB outperforms TH-UWB with 2 dB when the transmitter-receiver separation is 0 to 4 metre. Since TH-UWB is also more difficult to synchronize, the conclusion is that DS-UWB is more suitable for high-speed indoor links.

Performance Comparison of PPM-TH, PAM-TH, and PAM-DS UWB Rake Receivers with Channel Estimators via Correlation Mask

In this paper, the performance comparison of PPM-TH, PAM-TH, and PAM-DS UWB for a single user link are analyzed for different data rates using the proposed UWB channel model from IEEE 802.15.3a. The Rake receivers with a pulse-matched filter via correlation mask are numerically evaluated with channel estimator algorithm. DS-UWB and TH-UWB with antipodal modulation perform basically the same. Performance Evaluation of Rake Receivers Using Ultra Wideband Multipath Channels

In this report, we derive the performance graphs for UWB communication systems using different combining techniques in a RAKE Receiver. Comparisons have also been made between the techniques and conclusions have been drawn based on the requirements. We also incorporate the effect of number of fingers on the performance of the receivers. The results obtained give us way to evaluate the performan...

Comparison between Coherent and Noncoherent Receivers for UWB Communications

Wepresent a comparison between coherent and noncoherent UWB receivers, under a realistic propagation environment, that takes into account also the effect of path-dependent pulse distortion. As far as coherent receivers are concerned, both maximal ratio combining (MRC) and equal gain combining (EGC) techniques are analyzed, considering a limited number of estimated paths. Furthermore, two classi...

Detection, Synchronization, Channel Estimation and Capacity in UWB Sensor Networks using Compressed Sensing

Detection, Synchronization, Channel Estimation and Capacity in UWB Sensor Networks using Compressed Sensing by Shao-Yuan Chen Chair: Wayne E. Stark Conventional receivers in ultrawideband (UWB) communication system usually require high sampling rate and thus consume much power. With compressed sensing (CS), the sampling rate can potentially be reduced. In this thesis, the performance of CS used...
