The use of tibilis posterior as a dorsiflexor.

چکیده
Our interest in tendon transplantation in leprosy was first aroused by the report of Brand (1952), and the possibility of using tibialis posterior as a dorsifiexor was further stimulated by the report ofWatkins, Jones, Ryder and Brown (1954), who had used this muscle in poliomyelitis by bringing it through the interosseous membrane. Since we began this series Brand (1956) has stated that he has been using tibialis posterior as a dorsiflexor for some time. The technique that Brand employed is, however, rather different from the one that we have used. MATERIAL This report is based upon a study of fifty-six cases, mostly treated at the Buloh Leper Settlement. All except two patients in this series were suffering from leprosy. Lateral popliteal palsy is one of the commoner effects of leprosy, and for a long time splints have been the only form of treatment. Fortunately, the tibialis posterior muscle is seldom paralysed in this disease. Selection of cases-The following were the criteria used : I ) complete paralysis of the muscles supplied by the lateral popliteal nerve; 2) a reasonable range ofpassive dorsifiexion; and 3) an active and powerful tibialis posterior. Age was not considered : the youngest patient was aged ten years, and the oldest was sixty-four.

New method for fixation point of tibialis posterior tendon transfer
Background: The transfer of the tibialis posterior tendon to the dorsum of foot can restore the function of the paralyzed dorsiflexor muscles of the foot and ankle. In order to reduce the wound complication in the insertion site of tendon to bone by a plantar knop we used a new method of fixation by an absorbable screw inserted dorsally. Methods: we performed this operation on 15 patients in...
متن کاملEnhancement of two motor functions of the lower extremity in a child with spastic quadriplegia.
This single-subject experimental design examined the immediate effects of four neurodevelopmental treatment (NDT) activities on two dependent variables: dorsiflexor muscle activity during an equilibrium response and frequency of heel contact during movement to a standing position. The subject was a 2.5-year-old boy with spastic quadriplegia. During the seven days of Baseline 1 Phase, the nine d...

Posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES) is associated with various clinical manifestations such as headache, blurred vision, confusion and tonic-clonic convulsion. Some of the predisposing factors for PRES include hypertensive encephalopathy, preeclampsia and eclampsia, lupus erythematosus, thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura and long-term use of immunosuppressive drugs. This condit...
متن کاملDetermination of Incisal Point as Anterior Guide to Transfer Maxillary Casts to Articulator: A Pilot Study
Objectives Despite the importance to use face-bow record for transferring maxillary cast to articulator some dentists use average points to avoid the time taken and ease of use. The location of incisal point could help to set the maxillary cast or denture in an appropriate position in mounting stage. This study was designed to determine the incisal point location in ante...
متن کاملReview of techniques for improving the uniformity of dose distribution in total body irradiation (TBI) with parallel – opposed anterior and posterior geometry
Total body irradiation (TBI) is a kind of external beam radiotherapy which is used in conjunction with chemotherapy with the purpose of immunosuppression before bone marrow transplantation. As recommended by AAPM dose distribution uniformity in TBI is very important and dose variation must be within ±10% of prescription dose. Patients treatment geometry for TBI techniques fall into two co...
