Graham's Tree Reconstruction Conjecture and a Waring-Type Problem on Partitions

چکیده
Suppose G is a tree. Graham’s “Tree Reconstruction Conjecture” states that G is uniquely determined by the integer sequence |G|, |L(G)|, |L(L(G))|, |L(L(L(G)))|, . . ., where L(H) denotes the line graph of the graph H . Little is known about this question apart from a few simple observations. We show that the number of trees on n vertices which can be distinguished by their associated integer sequences is at least e 3/2). The proof strategy involves constructing a large collection of caterpillar graphs using partitions arising from the Prouhet-Tarry-Escott problem. We identify, but only partially resolve, an interesting question about representations of integers as sums of k powers of the parts of integer partitions.

"Divergence problem" in estimating temperature based on tree rings (Case study: Juniper mountainous habitats in northern Kerman province)
Introduction The study of tree rings is one of the most widely used methods of climate reconstruction for centuries and millennia, but the occurrence of climatic anomalies such as global warming in recent decades has caused divergence problem in the series of tree rings in some areas. Which challenges the ability of this proxy to regenerate the climate. The “divergence problem” is the differen...
متن کاملRobust Reconstruction on Trees Is Determined by the Second Eigenvalue by Svante Janson
Uppsala University and University of California, Berkeley Consider a Markov chain on an infinite tree T = (V ,E) rooted at ρ. In such a chain, once the initial root state σ(ρ) is chosen, each vertex iteratively chooses its state from the one of its parent by an application of a Markov transition rule (and all such applications are independent). Let μj denote the resulting measure for σ(ρ) = j ....
متن کاملThe solution to the partition reconstruction problem
Given a partition λ of n, a k-minor of λ is a partition of n − k whose Young diagram fits inside that of λ. We find an explicit function g(n) such that any partition of n can be reconstructed from its set of k-minors if and only if k ≤ g(n). In particular, partitions of n ≥ k2 + 2k are uniquely determined by their sets of k-minors. This result completely solves the partition reconstruction prob...
متن کاملReconstruction Conjecture for Graphs Isomorphic to Cube of a Tree
This paper proves the reconstruction conjecture for graphs which are isomorphic to the cube of a tree. The proof uses the reconstructibility of trees from their peripheral vertex deleted subgraphs. The main result follows from (i) characterization of the cube of a tree (ii) recognizability of the cube of a tree (iii) uniqueness of tree as a cube root of a graph G, except when G is a complete gr...
متن کاملUncrossing Partitions
We extend a well known uncrossing technique in linear programs (LPs) to work with partitions. Using this technique, we tie together three previously unrelated papers on Steiner trees, by showing that the following three values are equal: (1) the objective value of a subtour based LP by Polzin and Vahdati Daneshmand; (2) the objective value of a partition based LP by Könemann and Tan; (3) a “max...
