چکیده

Gossip protocols are designed to operate in very large, decentralised networks. A node in such a network bases its decision to interact (gossip) with another node on its partial view of the global system. Because of the size of these networks, analysis of gossip protocols is mostly done using simulations, but even they tend to be expensive in computation time and memory consumption. We employ mean-field approximation for an analytical evaluation of gossip protocols. Nodes in the network are represented by small identical stochastic processes. Joining all nodes would result in an enormous stochastic process. If the number of nodes goes to infinity, however, mean-field analysis allows us to replace this intractably large stochastic process by a small deterministic process. This process approximates the behaviour of very large gossip networks, and can be evaluated using simple matrix-vector multiplications.

PALMS : Reliable P2P Live Media Streaming

In recent year, Peer-to-Peer (P2P) approach for media streaming has been studied extensively. In comparison to on-demand media streaming, P2P live media streaming faces a much stringent time constraint. In order to improve the performance metrics, such as startup delay, source-to-end delay, and playback continuity, we present PALMS, a P2P approach for live media streaming where node employs gos...

Adaptive Push-Then-Pull Gossip Algorithm for Scale-free Networks

Real life networks are generally modelled as scale-free networks. Information diffusion in such networks in decentralised environment is a difficult and resource consuming affair. Gossip algorithms have come up as a good solution to this problem. In this paper, we have proposed Adaptive First-Push-Then-Pull gossip algorithm. We show that algorithm works with minimum cost when the transition rou...

The effects of Ramadan fasting on physical field-expedient measures in army cadets

Background and Objectives: Given the limited number of studies on Ramadan fasting and military performance, we conducted this study to identify the effect of Ramadan fasting on physical fitness performances in army cadets. Methods: Twenty healthy males were randomly selected from a larger sample group. The subjects were divided into fasting (n=10) and non-fasting (n=10) groups. They performed v...

Pulp: An adaptive gossip-based dissemination protocol for multi-source message streams

Gossip-based protocols provide a simple, scalable, and robust way to disseminate messages in largescale systems. In such protocols, messages are spread in an epidemic manner. Gossiping may take place between nodes using push, pull, or a combination. Push-based systems achieve reasonable latency and high resilience to failures but may impose an unnecessarily large redundancy and overhead on the ...

Energy Cost Model for Frequent Item Set Discovery in Unstructured P2P Networks

For large scale distributed systems, designing energy efficient protocols and services has become as significant as considering conventional performance criteria like scalability, reliability, fault-tolerance and security. We consider frequent item set discovery problem in this context. Although it has attracted attention due to its extensive applicability in diverse areas, there is no prior wo...
