چکیده

To efficiently learn database concepts, this work adopts association rules to provide diagnostic feedback for drawing an Entity-Relationship Diagram (ERD). Using association rules and Asynchronous JavaScript and XML (AJAX) techniques, this work implements a novel Web-based Timely Diagnosis System (WTDS), which provides timely diagnostic feedback whenever a learner encounters hurdles when learning database concepts. The WTDS provides crucial hints that help students rectify their misconceptions at each step to prevent prospective mistakes. To identify the learning effects of various feedback types, this work compares the proposed WTDS with systems providing other feedback types. The evaluation results demonstrate that all systems enhance learning achievement significantly. However, learning achievement of the class using the WTDS was significantly better than that of other classes, and the learning achievements of all cluster levels in the class using the WTDS were enhanced significantly. Finally, questionnaires and interviews were used to acquire student attitudes about the proposed system.

Feedback in Clinical Education: Concept, Barriers, and Strategies

Introduction: Feedback acts like a mirror in which the learner can observe the reflection of his/her performance. It is an important factor in medical education as well but one of the most neglected ones. Understanding the mechanisms and methods of feedback in clinical practice is necessary. The aim of this study is to investigate and develop the concept of feedback and factors affecting it as ...

Concept learning and transplantation for dynamic image databases

The task of a content-based image retrieval (CBIR) system is to cater to users who ezpect to get relevant images with high precision and eficiency in response to query images. This paper presents a concept learning approach that integrates a mixture model of the data, relevance feedback and long-term continuous learning. The concepts are incrementally refined with increased retrieval ezperience...

Support Vector Machine Concept-Dependent Active Learning for Image Retrieval

Relevance feedback is a critical component when designing image databases. With these databases it is difficult to specify queries directly and explicitly. Relevance feedback interactively learns a user’s desired output or query concept by asking the user whether certain proposed images are relevant or not. For a learning algorithm to be effective, it must learn a user’s query concept accuratel...

بازیابی تعاملی تصاویر طبیعت با بهره گیری از یادگیری چند نمونه ای

Content-based image retrieval (CBIR) has received considerable research interest in the recent years. The basic problem in CBIR is the semantic gap between the high-level image semantics and the low-level image features. Region-based image retrieval and learning from user interaction through relevance feedback are two main approaches to solving this problem. Recently, the research in integra...

An innovative concept map approach for improving students' learning performance with an instant feedback mechanism

Concept maps have been widely employed for helping students organise their knowledge as well as evaluating their knowledge structures in a wide range of subject matters. Although researchers have recognised concept maps as being an important educational tool, past experiences have also revealed the difficulty of evaluating the correctness of a concept map. It usually takes days or weeks for tea...
