چکیده

Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA) loci widely known for their role in generation of immune responsesare often considered to be effective in reconstructing human phylogenies due to high degree of polymorphism and rarity of recombination observed at HLA loci. In this review, we have made an attempt to discuss the role of HLA in immune response. Further we have tried to highlight the evolutionary significance of HLA diversity. The reason of high degree of HLA diversity is because of gene conversion and recombination. These evolutionary forces lead the HLA molecule to be most the most suitable marker to study the population diversity. © Kamla-Raj Enterprises 2007Anthropology Today: Trends, Scope and Applications Anthropologist Special Volume No. 3: 355-365 (2007)Veena Bhasin & M.K. Frequency of Major Histocompatibility Antigens Class I in Mazandaran Province

Background and purpose: Major histocompatibility antigens are the most polymorphic components of the immune system. The purpose of this study was to determine the frequency of human leukocyte antigens (HLA) in a population in Mazandaran province, Iran. Materials and methods: In a cross sectional study, peripheral blood samples were obtained from 550 people in Immunogenetics Research Center af...

P-145: Role of Human Leukocyte Antigen in Miscarriage

Background: During pregnancy, the maternal immune system is in close contact with cells and tissue from the semiallogenic fetus .The human leucocyte antigen (HLA) class Ib molecules, HLA-E, -F and -G, are expressed at the materno-fetal interface. Because of the apparent immunoregulatory functions of these proteins, they may be involved in successful acceptance of the semi-allogenic fetus during...

Association of Human Leukocyte Antigens Class I & II with Graves’ Disease in Iranian Population

Background: Graves’ disease (GD), a highly rampant autoimmune disorder of the thyroid gland, is responsible for 60-80% of the clinical cases of hyperthyroidism. Over the past decades, genetic association studies have identified several GD susceptibility loci in CTLA-4, TSHR and major histocompatibility complex regions. The information on the association between the human leukocyte antigens (HLA...

Non-Classical Human Leukocyte Antigen-G Allelic Diversity Among North Indians

Objectives: Throughout evolution high degree of polymorphism of human leukocyte antigens (HLA) has been observed which ensured accommodation and presentation of all possible antigens. Non-classical human leukocyte antigens-G (HLA-G) region shows polymorphism at 5′-upstream regulatory region (5′-URR) and in the 3′-untranslated region (3′-UTR). These polymorphisms have not been explored extensive...
