Subclinical inflammation occurring in diabetic retinopathy is supposed to be, at least partly, the cause of breakage of blood-retinal barrier. It may be expected that anti-inflammatory drugs have favorable effect on the course of diabetic macular oedema. The aim was to investigate the effect of intravitreally applied triamcinolone acetonide (TA) on resolution of diffuse diabetic macular oedema and visual acuity improvement. A single intravitreal application of 20 mg/0.2 mL triamcinolone was made in 68 eyes with developed diffuse macular oedema, where no laser treatment had been done before.
