چکیده

This paper shows a technique that allows adaptive user interfaces, spanning multiple devices, to be rendered from the task specification at runtime taking into account the context of use. The designer can specify a task model using the ConcurTaskTrees Notation and its contextdependent parts, and deploy the user interface immediately from the specification. By defining a set of context-rules in the design stage, the appropriate context-dependent parts of the task specification will be selected before the concrete interfaces will be rendered. The context will be resolved by the runtime environment and does not require any manual intervention. This way the same task specification can be deployed for several different contexts of use. Traditionally, a context-sensitive task specification only took into account a variable single deployment device. This paper extends this approach as it takes into account task specifications that can be executed by multiple co-operating devices.

Improving Interfaces for Collaborative Work in Multiple-Device Environments

Productive collaboration in a Multiple-Device Environment (MDE) requires an effective interface to efficiently manage applications among devices. Though many interfaces exist, there is little empirical understanding of how they affect collaboration. This paper reports results from a user study comparing how well three classes of interfaces; textual, map, and iconic, support realistic, collabora...

Concepts and issues in interfaces for multiple users and multiple devices

In this paper, we identify and discuss several groups of issues that arise in the design of interfaces for multiple users interacting with multiple devices. We analyze in what ways these interfaces differ from traditional single-user singledevice interfaces, and identify different characteristics of interfaces. We categorize a possible set of device types that may exist in an environment, and t...

Design and Experimental Study of a Combined Pneumatic Plot Seed-metering Device for Cotton

This study presents a combined pneumatic seed-metering device (SMD) that could not only fill, carry, and meter seeds, but also switch quickly between seed-metering and seed-cleaning modes, and clean seeds thoroughly and rapidly. The seed-filling, seed-carrying, and seed-metering modes of the SMD were analyzed based on a theoretical kinematic model. Furthermore, a three-factor, three-level ortho...

An environment for developing adaptive, multi-device user interfaces

There is a growing demand for the development of multi-device, adaptive user interfaces – interfaces that will run on and adapt to the characteristics of multiple display devices and networks as well as multiple users and user tasks. We describe a design and implementation environment for the development of such interfaces. This tool allows developers to specify their desired interfaces using a...

Supporting Flexible Development of Multi-device Interfaces

Tools based on the use of multiple abstraction levels have shown to be a useful solution for developing multi-device interfaces. To obtain general solutions in this area it is important to provide flexible environments with multiple entry points and support for redesigning existing interfaces for different platforms. In general, a one-shot approach can be too limiting. This paper shows how it i...
