Innovative Technologies for Nuclear Fuel Cycles and Nuclear Power

چکیده
At the present stage of development no single energy resource or technology constitutes a panacea toaddress all issues. Therefore, it is necessary that all low-carbon and non-carbon emitting resources become anintegral part of an energy mix – as diversified as possible – to ensure energy security to the world during thepresent century. Available sources are low carbon fossil fuels, renewables and nuclear energy and all theseshould be subject of increased level of research, development, demonstration and deployment. It is in thiscontext, that the Agency has an important role to play. Growth of nuclear energy in the developing countries is amatter of global interest in view of its potential to protect the earth from irreversible climate changes. Thepresent nuclear energy technologies need to be examined and barriers – real or perceived – to their deploymentovercome through technological solutions. Concerns with regard to safety, restrictive regimes arising out ofinternational politics, and investment risks due to long gestation periods, evolving liability regimes and uncertainregulatory regimes need to be addressed through innovative solutions. IAEA with its broadest membership baseis an indispensable platform for addressing these concerns through a technological approach

Safety Analysis of Spent Fuel Transportation Cask of Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant through the Passing of Fire Tunnel with ANSYS®10.0
The spent fuel assemblies (FAs) of Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant are planed to be transported by TK-13 casks. Each spent fuel transportation cask holds 12 spent FAs and has a thick steel container to provide shielding. The calculations have been performed for FAs with burn ups of 60 MWd/kg and a 3-years cooling period. The ANSYS®10.0 general finite element analysis package was se...
متن کاملLife-cycle impacts from novel thorium–uranium-fuelled nuclear energy systems
Electricity generated from nuclear power plants is generally associated with low emissions per kWh generated, an aspect that feeds into the wider debate surrounding nuclear power. This paper seeks to investigate how life-cycle emissions would be affected by including thorium in the nuclear fuel cycle, and in particular its inclusion in technologies that could prospectively operate open Th–U-bas...
متن کاملModal Analysis of Spent Fuel Cask for WWER-1000 Reactors
The Spent Fuel Assemblies (SFAs) of WWER-1000 reactors are planned to be transported by special containers which are supposed to be designed in a manner to stand against vibrations and impacts in order to protect the spent fuel from any possible damage. The vibration opposition of these containers shall be far beyond the critical resonance, because the resonances about the natural frequency of ...
متن کاملInnovative Nuclear Energy Systems: State-of-the Art Survey on Evaluation and Aggregation Judgment Measures Applied to Performance Comparison
This paper summarizes the experience gained in the application of multi-criteria decision making and uncertainty treatment methods to a comparative assessment of nuclear energy systems and related nuclear fuel cycles. These judgment measures provide a means for comprehensive evaluation according to different conflicting criteria, such as costs, benefits and risks, which are inevitably associate...
متن کاملرقابت پذیری اقتصادی نیروگاههای هسته ای در ایران
In this paper, competitiveness of nuclear power plants in comparison with fossil fuel power plants in Iran has been evaluated. For the first step, different factors affecting economic competitiveness of thermal power plants such as Investment, O&M and Fuel Costs, Discount Rate and Environmental Impacts has been studied. To analyse the effect of each parameter, screening curve method has been us...
