چکیده
This paper is an introduction in surgical indications of the pituitary tumours, representing a therapeutic option with interest, both for endocrinologists and for neurosurgeons. We present an etiopathogenic classification of the pituitary adenomas and a few considerations concerning their evolution. In conclusion: the indication for surgery is based on the morphologic evolution of the tumour, as well as on the hormonal changes induced by the tumour growth.

Case Report: Co-Occurrence of Pituitary Adenoma with Suprasellar and Olfactory Groove Meningiomas
Introduction: The co-existence of pituitary adenoma and meningioma is extremely rare. It is even rarer in patients with no previous known risk factors for either tumour. Here, we present a case of synchronous non-functioning pituitary adenoma with suprasellar and olfactory groove meningiomas in a patient without previous irradiation. Methods: The tumours were diagnosed on MRI in the 65-year-ol...
متن کاملPituitary macro adenoma and vestibular schwannoma: a case report of dual intracranial pathologies.
The concurrent presence of multiple primary brain tumours with different histological characteristics is very rare. A case of dual intracranial benign tumours comprising pituitary adenoma and vestibular schwannoma is described. The aetiology and genetic association of these pathologies is explored and the literature of multiple intracranial tumours of different cell types is reviewed.
متن کاملIntracranial dissemination of pituitary adenomas.
Two unusual cases of pituitary adenomas giving distant secondary deposits inside the cranial cavity are presented. The authors comment on the accessible literature and the possible routes and cause of the spread. Finally they discuss the problematic nomenclature and classification of these tumours.
متن کاملThyrotropin secreting pituitary tumours: a cause of hyperthyroidism.
Pituitary thyrotropin excess resulting in hyperthyroidism has been previously reported in only 25 patients, of whom 19 had a pituitary tumour. This report describes a patient in whom a thyrotropin-producing pituitary tumour was associated with triiodothyronine thyrotoxicosis. Hypophysectomy was followed by a prompt fall in serum thyrotropin and a return to a euthyroid state.
متن کاملSecretion of neuron-specific enolase, prolactin, growth hormone, luteinising hormone and follicle stimulating hormone by "functionless" and endocrine-active pituitary tumours in vitro.
Secretion of the neuroendocrine marker neuron-specific enolase by 24 pituitary tumours was measured in maintenance tissue culture. Eleven endocrine-active and 13 "functionless" tumours were defined by measurement of prolactin, growth hormone, luteinising hormone (LH) and follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) secretion rates in vitro and the corresponding plasma hormone levels. Measurement of prola...
