Aldosterone synthesis by adrenal mitochondria. II. The effect of citric acid cycle intermediates; identification of the soluble stimulatory factor as fumarase.

چکیده
The formation of aldosterone from corticosterone by the mitochondrial fraction of adrenal homogenates requires the presence of a citric acid cycle intermediate. The most effective intermediate is malate. The stimulation by the soluble fraction of mitochondrial aldosterone formation in the presence of fumarate, reported previously, is the result of conversion of the fumarate to malate by fumarase present in the soluble fraction.

متن کاملBiosynthesis and metabolism of steroid hormones by human adrenal carcinomas.
Over a 15-year period, our university-based laboratory obtained 125 adrenal tumors, of which 15 (12%) were adrenal cortical carcinomas. Of these, 6 (40% of the carcinomas) occurred in patients with clear clinical manifestations of steroid hormone excess. Adrenal cortical carcinoma cells derived from the surgically resected tumors in 4 of these patients were isolated and established in primary c...
متن کاملThe effect of fuel type on the synthesis of LiMn1.5Ni0.5O4 powders by solution combustion route
In this research LiMn1.5Ni0.5O4 nano powders that are used as cathode material for lithium-ion batteries were prepared by solution combustion synthesis route. Cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB), mixture of “CTAB and glycine” and also mixture of “CTAB and citric acid” were used as fuel using fuel to oxidant ratio of 0.5. The effect of fuel type on microstructure and electrochemical properti...
متن کاملThe Effect of Oxalic Acid, the Pathogenicity Factor of Sclerotinia sclerotiorum on the Two Susceptible and Moderately Resistant Lines of Sunfl ower
Background: One of the main sunfl ower diseases is the white mold Sclerotinia sclerotiorum. The oxalic acid (OA), which is one of the main pathogenicity factors of this fungus, beside the direct toxicity on the host, has other functions such as the disruption of the cell wall and chelating out the calcium ions. Objectives: Regarding the importance of this disease, it is im...
متن کاملPerspective: emerging evidence for signaling roles of mitochondrial anaplerotic products in insulin secretion.
The importance of mitochondrial biosynthesis in stimulus secretion coupling in the insulin-producing beta-cell probably equals that of ATP production. In glucose-induced insulin secretion, the rate of pyruvate carboxylation is very high and correlates more strongly with the glucose concentration the beta-cell is exposed to (and thus with insulin release) than does pyruvate decarboxylation, whic...
