NeXuS: Delivering Perceptions to Situated Embodied Agents
نویسندگان
چکیده
NeXuS[1] is a framework for the development of Augmented Reality (AR) applications that utilises perceptive intentional agents to create rich interactive environments where traditional boundaries between virtual and physical spaces may be overcome. The NeXuS framework demonstrates how behavioural realism can be achieved by placing such agents within an AR environment. Fig. 1 illustrates how a NeXuS Teen agent’s perceived beliefs about its environment alters the state of its visual avatar. When a virtual light source located on a marker enters the line of sight of the Teen’s avatar, the agent must change its avatar’s position in the world to one that it deliberately reasons to be most appropriate for avoiding the light’s ‘glare’.

Evolutionary Language Games as a Paradigm for Integrated AI Research
Evolutionary language games are a way to study how perceptions, concepts, and language can emerge in populations of situated embodied agents, driven by the needs of communication and the properties of the environment. Evolutionary language games are currently being investigated using physical robots and this then requires that the full cycle of processing activities from physical robotic embodi...
متن کاملSituated Comprehension of Imperative Sentences in Embodied, Cognitive Agents
Linguistic communication relies on non-linguistic context to convey meaning. That context might include, for instance, recent or long-term experience, semantic knowledge of the world, or objects and events in the immediate environment. In this paper, we describe embodied agents instantiated in Soar cognitive architecture that use context derived from their linguistic, perceptual, procedural and...
متن کاملTowards an Embodied and Situated AI
Real-time perception through experimental manipulation is developed using the robot arm to facilitate perception, or else exploiting human/robot social interactions (such as with a caregiver) so that the human changes the world in which it is situated, enhancing the robot’s perceptions. Contrary to standard supervised learning techniques relying on a-priori availability of training data segment...
متن کاملEmergence of communication in embodied agents: co-adapting communicative and non-communicative behaviours
In this paper I discuss in which conditions a population of embodied and situated agents that have to solve problems that requires cooperation might develop forms of ritualized interaction and communication. After reviewing the most relevant literature I will try to identify the the main open research problems and the most promising research directions. More specifially I will discuss: (a) the ...
متن کاملRepresentations in Dynamical Embodied Agents: Re-Analyzing a Minimally Cognitive Model Agent
Understanding the role of ''representations'' in cognitive science is a fundamental problem facing the emerging framework of embodied, situated, dynamical cognition. To make progress, I follow the approach proposed by an influential representational skeptic, Randall Beer: building artificial agents capable of minimally cognitive behaviors and assessing whether their internal states can be consi...
