Probabilistic Contexts for Reasoning
نویسنده
چکیده
We present a view of a context hypothesization process performed using the probabilistic knowledge of a domain. We outline the underlying asumptions and requirements for a focussed construction of interesting hypothetical contexts for probabilistic reasoning. The formalism presented seeks to construct consistent, minimal, and desirable probabilistic contexts by selecting suitable domain attributes and probabilistic dependency relationships from the available domain knowledge. A suitability criterion made available to the context-building agent helps it in focusing towards the interesting contexts.

Probabilistic Reasoning in the Description Logic ALCP with the Principle of Maximum Entropy
A central question for knowledge representation is how to encode and handle uncertain knowledge adequately. We introduce the probabilistic description logic ALCP that is designed for representing context-dependent knowledge, where the actual context taking place is uncertain. ALCP allows the expression of logical dependencies on the domain and probabilistic dependencies on the possible contexts...
متن کاملLoad-Frequency Control: a GA based Bayesian Networks Multi-agent System
Bayesian Networks (BN) provides a robust probabilistic method of reasoning under uncertainty. They have been successfully applied in a variety of real-world tasks but they have received little attention in the area of load-frequency control (LFC). In practice, LFC systems use proportional-integral controllers. However since these controllers are designed using a linear model, the nonlinearities...

متن کاملProbability, Rational Single-Case Decisions and the Monty Hall Problem
The application of probabilistic arguments to rational decisions in a single case is a contentious philosophical issue which arises in various contexts. Some authors (e.g. Horgan 1995; Levy 2007) affirm the normative force of probabilistic arguments in single cases while others (Baumann 2005, 2008) deny it. I demonstrate that both sides do not give convincing arguments for their case and propos...
متن کاملAlgebraic Reasoning for Probabilistic Concurrent Systems
We extend Milner's SCCS to obtain a calculus, PCCS, for reasoning about communicating probabilistic processes. In particular, the nondeterministic process summation operator of SCCS is replaced with a probabilistic one, in which the probability of behaving like a particular summand is given explicitly. The operational semantics for PCCS is based on the notion of probabilistic derivation, and is...
