چکیده

ABSTRACT. The effect of cord blood cadmium level on placental alkaline phosphatase activity and birth weight in an oil producing area was studied in this research. The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of cord blood cadmium level on alkaline phosphatase activity and if cadmium concentration had effect on birth weight. The results obtained shows no significant difference (P>0.05) in the concentration of cadmium and the activity of placental alkaline phosphatase respectively in the various groups. The results from this study also revealed that increased exposure to cadmium would lead to increase alkaline phosphatase activity (P>0.05). The results from the investigation on the effect of cadmium on birth weight showed that there was a negative significant correlation detected between cord blood cadmium level and birth weight (BW) at P>0.05. The results showed that increased cadmium level in cord blood reduces BW for each group that was studied.

Relationship between placental alkaline phosphatase activity and cord blood glucose, albumin and neonatal birth weight at term.

It has been observed that placental alkaline phosphatase (PAP) activity progressively rises as pregnancy advances, possibly, because of its increasing synthesis by placental tissue. The present investigation therefore, examines the relationship between placental alkaline phosphatase activity and the biochemical indices of foetal nutrition (cord blood glucose, albumin) and growth (neonatal birth...

The Effect of Maternal Anemia and Umbilical Cord Cortisol Level on Birth Weight and Length

Background & Aims: Maternal anemia in pregnancy is a considerable risk factor for both mother and fetus. Growth retardation, intra uterine fetal death, maternal cardiovascular symptoms and reduction in blood supply are among outcomes of maternal anemia. Since there are different reports about the relationship between low maternal hemoglobin level and low birght weight, the precent study was des...

The effects of chromium and cadmium on the activity of alkaline phosphatase lsoenzmes in rats

The aim of this study was to Investigate the toxic effects of chromium and cadmium on the activity of two isoenzymes of alkaline phosphatase in vitro and in vivo experiments. Oral administration and peritoneal injection of  CdCl2 or CrCl3 in rats reduced serum alkaline phosphatase by 21.5℅ and 25.5℅ respectively. At the same time high molecular weight alkaline phosphatase was elevated by 138℅ a...

P-10: Effects of Cadmium on Reproductive Enzymes of Blood and Reproductive Tissues in Adult Male Mice

Background: Heavy metals such as cadmium (Cd2+) are natural components of the Earth's crust which can not be degraded or destroyed. Industrial, mining and agricultural activities, particularly the excessive use of phosphate fertilizers, have led to high levels of cadmium contamination at many locations worldwide. Some toxic effects of cadmium are due to its inhibition of various enzyme sys...
