چکیده
This paper presents the analysis and modeling of the nonuniform substrate temperature in high performance ICs and its effect on the integrity of the clock signal. Using a novel non-uniform temperature-dependent distributed RC interconnect delay model, the behavior of clock skew in presence of the substrate thermal gradients is analyzed and some design guidelines are provided to ensure the integrity of the clock signal.

متن کاملModeling and Analysis of Non-Uniform Substrate Temperature Effects in High Performance VLSI
A non-uniform temperature profile for the chip substrate in high-performance ICs can significantly impact the performance of the global on-chip interconnects. This paper presents a detailed modeling and analysis of the interconnect performance degradation due to the non-uniform temperature profiles that are encountered along the metal connections as a result of the thermal gradients in the unde...

Using a non-uniform temperaturedependent distributed RC interconnect delay model, the optimum buffer insertion in the interconnects is analyzed and some design guidelines are provided to ensure the near-optimality of the signal performance ...
متن کاملA 150nW, 5ppm/o C, 100kHz On-Chip clock source for ultra low power SoCs
This paper presents an ultra low power clock source using a 1μW temperature compensated on-chip digitally controlled oscillator (OscCMP) and a 100nW uncompensated oscillator (OscUCMP) with respective temperature stabilities of 5ppm/C and 1.67%/C. A fast locking circuit re-locks OscUCMP to OscCMP often enough to achieve a high effective temperature stability. Measurements of a 130nm CMOS chip sh...
متن کاملModeling and Simulation of Substrate Noise in Mixed-Signal Circuits Applied to a Special VCO
The mixed-signal circuits with both analog and digital blocks on a single chip have wide applications in communication and RF circuits. Integrating these two blocks can cause serious problems especially in applications requiring fast digital circuits and high performance analog blocks. Fast switching in digital blocks generates a noise which can be introduced to analog circuits by the common su...
