The TrailTRECer Framework: Applying Open Hypermedia Concepts to Trails
نویسندگان
چکیده
Being lost in space and overloaded with information are two key problems users are confronted with, when searching for appropriate information. Trails built from information about the users’ browsing paths and activities, are an established approach to assist users in navigating vast information spaces. However, existing trailbased systems are focusing on browsers only and therefore do not fully exploit the notion of trails. The TrailTRECer framework addresses these issues by being open to any application and any activity. The usability of the framework and the concept of user trails were tested by building a navigation support system with different trail-enabled clients.

The TrailTRECer Framework - A Platform for Trail-Enabled Recommender Applications
In their everyday work people are confronted with ever growing amounts of information and thus often feel overloaded with data. Trails, built from information about the users’ browsing paths and activities, are an established approach to assist users in navigating vast information spaces and finding appropriate information. While existing systems focus on web browsers only, we argue that trails...
متن کاملEnabling Project Awareness and Intersubjectivity via Hypermedia-Enabled Event Trails
Supporting project awareness in the context of large-scale software development is difficult. One key problem is identifying appropriate abstractions and techniques for the insertion of project awareness mechanisms into a software development environment with minimal impact. An additional problem is scaling project awareness mechanisms to handle the demands of large-scale software development p...
متن کاملEncapsulation and information hiding as the keys to enhanced hypermedia development and maintenance
This paper presents a solution to the maintenance problem in hypermedia by applying object-oriented techniques to both the hypermedia data model and the hypermedia system’s actual implementation. First, the primary concepts of the “MESH” (Maintainable, End user friendly, Structured Hypermedia) approach are discussed briefly. These consist of a conceptual data model, a navigation paradigm and an...

This paper discusses the role of agents in a distributed multimedia information system (DMIS) engineered according to the principles of open hypermedia. It is based on the new generation of Microcosm, an open hypermedia system developed by the Multimedia Research Group at the University of Southampton. Microcosm provides a framework for supporting the three major roles of agents within open inf...
متن کاملUsing the Flag Taxonomy to Study Hypermedia System Interoperability
Interoperability between existing systems, program packages, tools and applications with various degrees of hypermedia awareness is a complex and important challenge facing the hypermedia community. This paper presents a general framework (called the Flag Interoperability Matrix) to discuss and examine hypermedia system interoperability based on the concepts and principles of the Flag taxonomy ...
