چکیده

1. Introduction The presence of organic part in the new class of hybrid solids imparts an important chemical versatility to these materials compared to "classical" solids. The architecture of Metal Organic Frameworks (MOF) may lead to open structures with 1D (chains), 2D (layers) or 3D dimensionality developing very large surface areas (above 1000 m 2 /g) [1]. Some MOFs possess a structural originality: the frameworks are flexible and movements larger than 10 Å can be generated in response of external stimuli (temperature, adsorption of guest molecules). It is therefore interesting to explore the diffusion properties of these materials. The present work reports the study by Pulsed Field Gradient (PFG) NMR of the diffusion of butane in two hybrid solids, named MIL-53 (Ga)and MIL-103 (La), MIL standing for "Institut Lavoisier Materials". The structure of MIL-53 and MIL-103 consists of chains of octahedral metal ions (Ga, La, respectively) connected by organic linkers (benzene dicarboxylate, benzene tribenzoate, respectively) forming 1D channels with 8.6 Ǻ and 10 Ǻ pore diameter, respectively [2,3].

New Options for Measuring Molecular Diffusion in Zeolites by MAS PFG NMR

1. Introduction Combination of pulsed field gradient (PFG) NMR with magic-angle spinning (MAS) NMR is demonstrated to have remarkable advantages in comparison with conventional PFG NMR, if applied to diffusion measurements in beds of nanoporous particles, notably zeolites. These advantages are based on the effect of line narrowing and concern (i) a prolongation of the intervals during which the...

Detecting diffusion-diffraction patterns in size distribution phantoms using double-pulsed field gradient NMR: Theory and experiments.

NMR observable nuclei undergoing restricted diffusion within confining pores are important reporters for microstructural features of porous media including, inter-alia, biological tissues, emulsions and rocks. Diffusion NMR, and especially the single-pulsed field gradient (s-PFG) methodology, is one of the most important noninvasive tools for studying such opaque samples, enabling extraction of...

Diffusion in Porous Media

Porous media are of considerable interest in a very diverse range of activities. They comprise a wide variety of substances—plastics, ceramics, cements, clays, rocks, porous glasses, carbons, silica gels, zeolites, the recently emerging metal–organic frameworks and coordination polymers, and many more. Even biological tissues may share many features of porous media. Depending on the given natur...

Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Study of Water-Polymer Interactions and Self-Diffusion of Water in Polymer Films

The diffusivity and distribution of water in the butyl methacrylate and methacrylic acid copolymer films swollen in water have been investigated using the NMR relaxation and pulse field gradient (PFG) NMR techniques. The contributions of polymer matrix protons, surface water and bound water have been determined from H NMR spectra and relaxation functions. PFG NMR experiments showed that the ech...

Experimental evidence of distance-dependent diffusion constants resulting from nanostructure of hyaluronan aqueous solution

Material transports in hyaluronan (HA) aqueous solution were investigated applying two different techniques, i.e., pulsed field gradient NMR (PFG-NMR) and photochemical quenching, to the measurement of diffusion constants to show a sharp contrast resulting from the difference of the spectroscopic observation time while the same probe molecules were commonly used in two experiments. The value fr...
