G / G models as the strong coupling limit of topologically massive gauge theory

We show that the problem of computing the vacuum expectation values of gauge invariant operators in the strong coupling limit of topologically massive gauge theory is equivalent to the problem of computing similar operators in the G k /G model where k is the integer coefficient of the Chern-Simons term. The G k /G model is a topological field theory and many correlators can be computed analytically. We also show that the effective action for the Polyakov loop operator and static modes of the gauge fields of the strongly coupled theory at finite temperature is a perturbed, non-topological G k /G model. In this model, we compute the one loop effective potential for the Polyakov loop operators and explicitly construct the low-lying excited states. In the strong coupling limit the theory is in a deconfined phase.

Lattice gauge theories and the Heisenberg antiferromagnetic chain ∗
We study the strongly coupled 2-flavor lattice Schwinger model and the SU(2)-color QCD2. The strong coupling limit, even with its inherent nonuniversality, makes accurate predictions of the spectrum of the continuum models and provides an intuitive picture of the gauge theory vacuum. The massive excitations of the gauge model are computable in terms of spin-spin correlators of the quantum Heise...
متن کاملComposite Models of Quarks and Leptons and Strong Coupling Lattice Gauge Theories
We extend a previous variational block spin analysis of the realization of chiral symmetry in a strong coupling lattice gauge theory to models which have been suggested as possibly describing massless composite fermions. In all cases we find massive fermioncomposites and spontaneous breaking of chiral symmetry. We also discuss the relevance of this result to the continuum limit. Submitted to Ph...
متن کاملChern-Simons States and Topologically Massive Gauge Theories
In an abelian topologically massive gauge theory, any eigenstate of the Hamiltonian can be decomposed into a factor describing massive propagating gauge bosons and a Chern-Simons wave function describing a set of nonpropagating “topological” excitations. The energy depends only on the propagating modes, and energy eigenstates thus occur with a degeneracy that can be parametrized by the Hilbert ...
متن کاملNonrenormalization Theorem for Gauge Coupling in 2 + 1 D
We prove that β-function of the gauge coupling in 2 + 1D gauge theory coupled to any renormalizable system of spinor and scalar fields is zero. This result holds both when the gauge field action is the Chern-Simons action and when it is the topologically massive action.

We study the strong coupling limit of the one-flavor and two-flavor massless 't Hooft models, large − N c-color QCD 2 , on a lattice. We use staggered fermions and the Hamiltonian approach to lattice gauge theories. We show that the one-flavor model is effectively described by the antiferro-magnetic Ising model, whose ground state is the vacuum of the gauge model in the infinite coupling limit;...
