Fuzzy Aggregation Techniques in Situations Without Experts: Towards A New Justi cation
نویسندگان
چکیده
Fuzzy techniques have been originally invented as a methodology that transforms the knowledge of experts formulated in terms of natural language into a precise computerimplementable form. There are many successful applications of this methodology to situations in which expert knowledge exist, the most well known is an application to fuzzy control. In some cases, fuzzy methodology is applied even when no expert knowledge exists: instead of trying to approximate the unknown control function by splines, polynomials, or by any other traditional approximation technique, researchers try to approximate it by guessing and tuning the expert rules. Surprisingly, this approximation often works ne. In this paper, we give a mathematical explanation for this phenomenon, and show that approximation by using fuzzy methodology is indeed (in some reasonable sense) the best.

Utilizing renewable energies is identified as one of significant issues for economical and social significance in future human life. Thus, choosing the best renewable energy among renewable energy candidates is more important. To address the issue, multi-criteria group decision making (MCGDM) methods with imprecise information could be employed to solve these problems. The aim of this paper is ...

In this paper, an interval-valued Pythagorean triangular fuzzy number (IVPTFN) as a useful tool to handle decision-making problems with vague quantities is defined. Then, their operational laws are developed. By introducing a novel method of making a decision on the concept of possibility theory, a multi-attribute group decision-making (MAGDM) problem is considered, in which the attribute value...
متن کاملFuzzy multi-criteria decision-making procedure for evaluating advanced manufacturing system investments
In this paper, a fuzzy decision algorithm is proposed to select the most suitable advanced manufacturing system (AMS) alternative from a set of mutually exclusive alternatives. Both economic evaluation criterion and strategic criteria such as #exibility, quality improvement, which are not quantitative in nature, are considered for selection. The economic aspects of the AMS selection process are...
متن کاملA Selection Process Based on Additive Consistency to Deal with Incomplete Fuzzy Linguistic Information
In group decision making situations, there may be cases in which experts do not have an in-depth knowledge of the problem to be solved and, as a result, they may present incomplete information. In this paper, we present a new selection process to deal with incomplete fuzzy linguistic information. As part of it, we use an iterative procedure to estimate the missing information. This procedure is...
