چکیده

There is some controversy in the field of household economics regarding the effi ciency of household decisions. We make the point that a flexible specification of spousal preferences and the household production technology precludes the possibility of using revealed preference data on household time allocations to determine the manner in which spouses interact: effi ciently or ineffi ciently. Under strong, but standard, assumptions regarding marriage market equilibria, marital sorting patterns can be used essentially as “out of sample” information that allows us to assess whether household behavior is effi cient or not. We develop a new likelihood-based metric to compare marriage market fits under the two alternative behavioral assumptions. We use a sample of households drawn from a recent wave of the Panel Study of Income Dynamics, and find some (limited) evidence supporting the view that households behave in an effi cient manner. Household Time Allocation and Modes of Behavior: A Theory of Sorts

Household Time Allocation and Modes of Behavior: A Theory of Sorts * We develop a simple model of household time allocation decisions under strong functional form assumptions regarding preferences and household production technology. We argue that the specification is general when allowing for unrestrictive forms of population heterogeneity in the parameters characterizing these functions. More...

An Analysis the Effect of Capital Taxation on Allocation of Resources: A Dynamic Equilibrium Model Approach

Abstract T he return of capital is fundamental to the intertemporal allocation of resources by changing the consumption behavior and capital accumulation over time. Taxation on return of capital increases the marginal product of capital, meaning that capital stock is lower than when capital is not taxed, which results decreased growth and welfare in steady state. This pape...

A Multi-Mode Resource-Constrained Optimization of Time-Cost Trade-off Problems in Project Scheduling Using a Genetic Algorithm

In this paper, we present a genetic algorithm (GA) for optimization of a multi-mode resource constrained time cost trade off (MRCTCT) problem. The proposed GA, each activity has several operational modes and each mode identifies a possible executive time and cost of the activity. Beyond earlier studies on time-cost trade-off problem, in MRCTCT problem, resource requirements of each execution mo...

Modeling Household Time Allocation Behavior: Comparative Analysis Using a Large-scale Data from Survey on Time Use and Leisure Activities in Japan

Members in a household interact with each other when allocating their limited time resources to various activities, reflecting role specification and power structure within the household. For each member, some of activities are competitive in time allocation. In addition, each member might show different interest in or attach different importance to different activities. To reflect such complic...

Estimation of Static and Dynamic Demand Function of Household Water in Qazvin Province and Review of the Rate of Change in Consumer Behavior Over Time

In this research, the demand function of drinkable  water in Qazvin Province was estimated using dynamic and static methods. The required data were collected from the data of the provinces of Qazvin in the time period (1996-2016) and collected by referring to the statistical system of Statistics Center of Iran and the provincial planning and budget organization of Qazvin Province. The explanato...
