چکیده

The present work focuses on the seasonal evaluation of suspended particulate matter (SPM) produced by Badarpur thermal power station (BTPS) within a radius of 5 km of its source. The study was carried out using both monitoring and modeling; experimental measurements were obtained from a monitoring network in and around the power station. Numerical simulations were carried out employing a Gaussian plume point source model. SPM is considered to be the main pollutant emitted by the power station. Two years (1998-1999) of wind speed, wind direction and cloud cover data recorded by India Meteorological Department (IMD) were used for concentration computations. These computed values of particulate matter at six receptors, in and around BTPS, were used to evaluate the seasonal impact of BTPS on air quality. Comparison of numerical results with experimental data show a marked seasonal trend along the study period which is characterized by SPM levels that were higher in winter and decreased progressively through the pre-monsoon, post-monsoon and monsoon seasons.

Radon monitoring in gas turbine and thermal power station A comparative study

Background: In this study, measurement of indoor radon and its progeny levels was carried out in Gas Turbine Power Station in Haryana ( India ), where natural gas is used as fuel. For comparison, the results of a study carried out in thermal power plant in Haryana are also presented. Radon being a ubiquitous air pollutant has global impact and its monitoring in the environment at work places is...

A study on the composition of size-fractionated suspended particulate matter in shallow coastal waters of Chabahar Bay

Abstract In the present study, sampling and analysis of size-fractionated suspended particulate matter (SPM) in coastal waters of Chabahar Bay have been done for the first time. Sampling has been conducted on December 25 of 2018 from 5 stations in different locations of the Bay in order to evaluate the effects of natural and human activities on SPM mass and composition. With an overall average...

Effect of winds on SO2 and SPM concentrations in Delhi

A study of concentrations of sulfur dioxide (SO2) and suspended particulate matter (SPM) has been performed in Delhi. The monthly and seasonal variations of concentrations and winds are analyzed. The monthly mean SO2 concentrations were in the range of 16.15-34.44 ngrrT and showed regular seasonal variations with the highest concentrations in winter and lowest in monsoon season. On the other ha...

Comparison between air pollution concentrations measured at the nearest monitoring station to the delivery hospital and those measured at stations nearest the residential postal code regions of pregnant women in Fukuoka

BACKGROUND Numerous earlier studies examining the association of air pollution with maternal and foetal health estimated maternal exposure to air pollutants based on the women's residential addresses. However, residential addresses, which are personally identifiable information, are not always obtainable. Since a majority of pregnant women reside near their delivery hospitals, the concentration...
