Community acquired methicillin sensitive Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia, meningitis and brain abscess: A unique presentation

چکیده
Introduction: Staphylococcus aureus causing isolate central nervous system (CNS) infection is rare. It is mostly related to either neurosurgical intervention or previous local or systemic infection rather than spontaneous isolated infection in adults. Case Report: We report a case of a previously healthy 19yearold male with no risk factors of Staphylococcus aureus infection, who was found to have methicillin sensitive Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA) bacteremia, meningitis and cerebral abscess, without an apparent source of infection. Conclusion: Our case is a unique presentation of a young male presenting with isolated CNS infection by MSSA. This case highlights the challenge of early diagnosis of brain abscess, an entity that presents very often with nonspecific signs, the diagnosis of which can be easily missed, with repercussions on longterm disability and mortality.

Central Nervous System (CNS) infections like meningitis and cerebral abscess caused by Staphylococcus aureus are usually seen in patients with neurosurgical interventions or immune compromised patients or patients with cardiac vegetation's. They are extremely rare in healthy patients. We report a case of a 44 year old Indian gentleman who was perfectly healthy with no known co morbidities, whic...
متن کاملMethicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus meningitis associated with spondylodiscitis and psoas abscess in an immunocompetent patient
Methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) meningitis are rare. They are mostly considered as a nosocomial complication of a neurosurgical procedure or a contiguous infection. In this paper we discuss the case of an immunocompetent patient with methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus meningitis associated with bacteremia, spondylodiscitis of the lumbar spine and psoas abscess. The p...

We report four adult patients who presented with septic pulmonary emboli and community-acquired methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia associated with deep tissue infections, such as pyomyositis, osteomyelitis, and prostatic abscess. The patients lacked evidence of right-sided endocarditis or thrombophlebitis. This association, previously described in children, may also be impor...
متن کاملNasal Colonization Rate of Community and Hospital Acquired Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus in Hospitalized Children
Background & Aims: Prevalence of community and hospital acquired methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infection is increasing. The primary reservoir is the anterior nares; and nasal carriage is a risk factor for infection in a variety of populations. Infection due to hospital-acquired colonization is different from community acquired in clinical manifestations and antibiotics susc...

INTRODUCTION Community-acquired methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (CA-MRSA) infections are prevalent both in Argentina and worldwide, and they may have a severe clinical course. OBJECTIVES To estimate the hospitalization rate and case fatality risk factors of CA-MRSA infection. METHODS Cross-sectional, analytical study. All patients < 15 years old with community-acquired Staphyloc...
