چکیده

Dietrich W erner and Andreas Bernd Wolff Fachbereich Biologie, Botanisches Institut der Philipps-Universität Marburg, Karl-v.-Frisch straße, D-355 Marburg-L, Bundesrepublik Deutschland Z. Naturforsch. 42c, 537—541 (1987); received October 7, 1986 Glycine max, Root Hairs, Roots, Specific Proteins, Infection In root hairs from seedlings of Glycine max cultivars, isolated from the root system and com pared with the complete organ, specific soluble proteins have been found. By FPLC chromatogra phy and SDS gel electrophoresis root hair specific proteins with molecular weights of 13, 21, 34, 38 and 42 kDa were separated. Additionally, proteins with molecular weights of 12, 20, 69 and 74 kDa were significantly enriched in root hairs compared to roots without root hairs. By using CNBr activated Sepharose with antibodies against the root system without root hairs, the pres ence of root hair specific proteins was confirmed in extracts from isolated root hair cells. Enrich ment of Fe and Ca in some of the proteins from the root hairs is demonstrated. The present knowledge of the biochemical specificity of legume root hairs, the target cells of Rhizobium and Bradyrhizobium infection, is discussed.

Impact of sea salt stress on growth and some physiological attributes of some soybean (Glycine Max L.) varieties.

The impact of three levels of sea salt (0.0, 8.0, and 16.0 mS/cm2) on six varieties of soybean (Crawford, G21, G22, G35, G82, and G83) was studied. Growth criteria, photosynthetic pigments, soluble sugars, soluble protein, free amino acids, free proline, and protein profile of soybean varieties were investigated under sea salt stress. Results of this study showed a considerable decrease in grow...

Establishment of a protein reference map for soybean root hair cells.

Root hairs are single tubular cells formed from the differentiation of epidermal cells on roots. They are involved in water and nutrient uptake and represent the infection site on leguminous roots by rhizobia, soil bacteria that establish a nitrogen-fixing symbiosis. Root hairs develop by polar cell expansion or tip growth, a unique mode of plant growth shared only with pollen tubes. A more com...

Perception of Bradyrhizobium japonicum Nod factor by soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] root hairs under abiotic stress conditions.

Suboptimal growth conditions, such as low rhizosphere temperature, high salinity, and low pH can negatively affect the rhizobia-legume symbioses, resulting in poor nodulation and lower amounts of nitrogen fixed. Early stages of the Bradyrhizobium japonicum-soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] symbiosis, such as excretion of genistein (the plant-to-bacteria signal) and infection initiation can be in...

Complete transcriptome of the soybean root hair cell, a single-cell model, and its alteration in response to Bradyrhizobium japonicum infection.

Nodulation is the result of a mutualistic interaction between legumes and symbiotic soil bacteria (e.g. soybean [Glycine max] and Bradyrhizobium japonicum) initiated by the infection of plant root hair cells by the symbiont. Fewer than 20 plant genes involved in the nodulation process have been functionally characterized. Considering the complexity of the symbiosis, significantly more genes are...

The isolation and characterization of a root lectin from soybean (Glycine max (L), cultivar Chippewa).

A lectin has been isolated from the roots of 5-day soybean (Glycine max (L) cultivar Chippewa) seedlings, and its properties have been compared to those of the soybean seed lectin. The sugar-binding activities of the two lectins, both in terms of specific hemagglutinating activity and sugar specificity, are indistinguishable. Molecular properties of the two lectins, measured as relative molecul...
