Visual Spectroscopy of Asteroids at San Pedro Martir
نویسنده
چکیده
We present low resolution reflectance spectra over the wavelength range 5000– 10000Å for 4 asteroids (3 belonging to the Nysa family and one near–Earth asteroid) obtained at the San Pedro Martir Observatory (Mexico) using the 2.1m telescope. Though the limited wavelength range covered often makes a classification difficult, the analysis of the available data reveals that two asteroids of the Nysa family, (2007) McCuskey and (3130) Hillary, are probably of F-type and (3384) Daliya of S-type. Near–Earth asteroid (3908) Nyx (Amor asteroid) shows a spectrum, within the limits of our signal–to–noise ratio (S/N), consistent with a V–type taxonomic classification and may be a fragment excavated from Vesta by an impact.

Dendrochronology-based fire history of Jeffrey pine – mixed conifer forests in the Sierra San Pedro Martir, Mexico
Conifer forests in northwestern Mexico have not experienced systematic fire suppression or logging, making them unique in western North America. Fire regimes of Pinus jeffreyi Grev. & Balf. mixed conifer forests in the Sierra San Pedro Martir, Baja California, Mexico, were determined by identifying 105 fire dates from 1034 fire scars in 105 specimens. Fires were recorded between 1521 and 1980 a...
متن کاملPathogens and insects in a pristine forest ecosystem: the Sierra San Pedro Martir, Baja, Mexico1
We determined the incidence of pathogens and insects across mixed-conifer stands in the Sierra San Pedro Martir (SSPM) of northern Baja, Mexico, to assess the role of pests in a pristine forest ecosystem. We also determined the spatial distribution of the two most common pests, mistletoe, Phoradendron pauciflorum Torrey, and the fir engraver, Scolytus ventralis LeConte, of white fir (Abies conc...
متن کاملVisible-Wavelength Spectroscopy of Asteroids
Since first becoming available for astronomical research in the early 1980s, charge-coupleddevice (CCD) spectrographs have had a profound impact on our ability to measure the spectralreflectance properties of asteroids. High signal-to-noise, low-resolution spectra, covering the visible-wavelength region from 0.4 to 1.0 μm, are now routinely obtained for asteroids much fainter than were measured...
متن کاملGiant Chordoma of the Thoracolumbar Spine
Chordomas are rare tumors from primitive notochord. They are usually located at sacrococcygeal region when it affects the spine. We present a case of giant chordoma in the thoracolumbar spine in Peru. A 43-year-old woman came to the hospital in Huanuco due to back pain and sensorymotor alterations in the lower limbs. Imaging confirmed an unresectable tumor involving the spine. Two years later, ...
