چکیده

Few studies addressed the relation of visceral adiposity and high-molecular weight (HMW) adiponectin to arterial stiffness. We investigated the impact of visceral adipose tissue (VAT) and HMW adiponectin on cardio-ankle vascular index (CAVI) in asymptomatic Japanese subjects. We studied 487 consecutive subjects (271 men and 216 women) who underwent general health examination between October 2005 and May 2008. The abdominal visceral and subcutaneous adipose tissue areas were determined by low-dose x-ray computed tomography. Serum levels of total and HMW adiponectin were measured using the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay system based on a monoclonal antibody to humans. CAVI was positively correlated with the VAT area and negatively correlated with HMW adiponectin levels. We also found the positive association of the number of metabolic syndrome components with CAVI in both sexes. A stepwise multiple regression analysis revealed that age, the VAT area, serum HMW adiponectin levels, and the homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) were independent determinants of CAVI. A receiver operating characteristics (ROC) analyses demonstrated that the predictive value of the VAT area for the extent of CAVI (mild: < 25%tile vs. severe: >75%tile) exceeded that of total or HMW adiponectin levels in both sexes. In conclusion, increased CAVI is associated

Cardiorespiratory Fitness is a Strong Predictor of the Cardio-ankle Vascular Index in Hypertensive Middle-aged and Elderly Japanese Men.

AIM This study aimed to examine whether cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) is associated with arterial stiffening, evaluated using the cardio-ankle vascular index (CAVI), independent of visceral fat (VF) in middle-aged and elderly Japanese men. We also examined whether the relationship between CRF and the CAVI is modified by age and/or hypertension. METHODS The CAVI was determined in 157 Japanes...

Excess Visceral Adipose Tissue Worsens the Vascular Endothelial Function in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

Objective Visceral fat obesity and metabolic syndrome correlate with atherosclerosis in part due to insulin resistance and various other factors. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between vascular endothelial dysfunction and excess visceral adipose tissue (VAT) in Japanese patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Methods In 71 T2DM patients, the reactive hyperemia in...

Association between plasma high-molecular-weight adiponectin and coronary plaque characteristics assessed by computed tomography angiography in conditions of visceral adipose accumulation.

BACKGROUND Our group has previously reported that visceral adipose tissue (VAT) accumulation was associated with the extent and vulnerable characteristics of coronary plaques using coronary computed tomography angiography (CTA). An investigation of the associations between these coronary lesions with plasma adiponectin and leptin was performed. METHODS AND RESULTS A total of 394 patients (220...

The C-reactive protein and cardio-ankle vascular index of Mongolian and Japanese people

Mongolian people suffer from atherosclerotic diseases more than Japanese people, while both people are thought to share similar genetic background under different lifestyles and environments. Comparative studies using novel atherosclerotic parameters of Mongolian and Japanese people may demonstrate the atherosclerotic features of both populations. We have recently reported the findings regardin...

Association between Diagonal Earlobe Crease and Cardio-Ankle Vascular Index in Asymptomatic Hypertensive Patients

OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to investigate the association between earlobe crease (ELC) and cardio-ankle vascular index (CAVI) in asymptomatic hypertensive subjects. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 75 subjects with ELC and 75 age- and gender-matched patients without ELC were prospectively selected from subjects admitted to the Outpatient Cardiology Clinic. ELC was assigned to a perso...
