SLAC-PUB-1238 u-m May 1973 DIRECT CHANNEL EFFECTS IN NONDIFFRACTIVE SCATTERING*
نویسنده
چکیده
Direct channel or absorption effects are first considered for r exchange reactions, and in particular for TNpN. The discussion is then restricted to nondiffractive pseudoscalar-meson baryon scattering reactions, where only two helicity amplitudes define the scattering process. The 6 GeV/c Q amplitude analyses are reviewed; energy dependences of various features of the data are then studied to obtain a qualitative understanding of the energy trecds of the helicity amplitudes. The relation of these results to TTT~~ analyses is discussed.

Initial operating experience witll the SLAC electronpositron storage ring SPEAR is described. A luminosity of 1.2 x 1031 cm-2 set-I has been achieved and two-beam interaction effects are described. A single-beam coherent instability, which can be suppressed either by control of the ring chromaticity or by feedback, has been observed. Current-dependent bunch lengthening and widening have been ob...

We devise an algebra of currents and their first time-derivatives designed to damp at high momentum the asymptotic behavior of leptonpair scattering amplitudes from hadrons consequent from the local current algebra of Gell-Mann. Given certain criteria, the algebra we find is unique, and the commutators are expressed linearly in terms of the currents themselves, The Jacobi identity, however, is’...

New results from inelastic two-body scattering reactions are reviewed. Although predictions of SU(3), factorization and simple Regge theory are found to be qualitatively in agreement with the data, direct channel or absorption effects afford the simplest interpretation of the detailed features of the scattering amplitudes.

We study Compton scattering, γ e → γ e, in the context of the recent proposal for Weak Scale Quantum Gravity (WSQG) with large extra dimensions. It is shown that, with an ultraviolet cutoff M S ∼ 1 TeV for the effective gravity theory, the cross section for this process at the Next Linear Collider (NLC) deviates from the prediction of the Standard Model significantly. Our results suggest that, ...
