B-SPLINE MODELING AND ESTIMATOR PERFORMANCE Stephen R. Titus, Alfred O. Hero III, Je rey A. Fessler Department of EECS University of Michigan Ann Arbor, MI 48109 [email protected] ABSTRACT We give estimation error bounds and specify optimal estimators for continuous, closed boundary curves in an NMR image. The boundary is parameterized using periodic B-Splines. A Cramer-Rao lower bound on mean-square-estimate error in the presence of system smoothing and Gaussian noise is derived, and the performance of maximum likelihood and penalized maximum likelihood estimators is compared to this bound. Finally, we comment on the usefulness of estimates of the boundary for providing anatomical side information in the reconstruction of functional tomographic images like those of a PET or SPECT system.

3D Reconstruction Using Cubic Bezier Spline Curves and Active Contours (Case Study)
Introduction 3D reconstruction of an object from its 2D cross-sections (slices) has many applications in different fields of sciences such as medical physics and biomedical engineering. In order to perform 3D reconstruction, at first, desired boundaries at each slice are detected and then using a correspondence between points of successive slices surface of desired object is reconstructed. Mate...
متن کاملAdaptive B-Snake model using shape and appearance information for object segmentation
A novel adaptive B-Spline deformable model is presented in this paper for object segmentation. Comparing with other B-Spline models, the proposed model has the following advantages. First, a fully automatic and affine-invariant strategy is proposed for landmark point assignment. Second, contrary to other B-Spline models that rely on predetermined number of control points, an automatic scheme fo...
متن کاملA Two Stage k-Monotone B-Spline Regression Estimator: Uniform Lipschitz Property and Optimal Convergence Rate
This paper considers k-monotone estimation and the related asymptotic performance analysis over a suitable Hölder class for general k. A novel two stage k-monotone B-spline estimator is proposed: in the first stage, an unconstrained estimator with optimal asymptotic performance is considered; in the second stage, a k-monotone B-spline estimator is constructed by projecting the unconstrained est...
متن کاملModeling Surfaces of Arbitrary Topology using Manifolds1
We describe an extension of B-splines to surfaces of arbitrary topology, including arbitrary boundaries. The technique inherits many of the properties of B-splines: local control, a compact representation, and guaranteed continuity of arbitrary degree. The surface is specified using a polyhedral control mesh instead of a rectangular one; the resulting surface approximates the polyhedral mesh mu...
متن کاملA NEURO-FUZZY GRAPHIC OBJECT CLASSIFIER WITH MODIFIED DISTANCE MEASURE ESTIMATOR
The paper analyses issues leading to errors in graphic object classifiers. Thedistance measures suggested in literature and used as a basis in traditional, fuzzy, andNeuro-Fuzzy classifiers are found to be not suitable for classification of non-stylized orfuzzy objects in which the features of classes are much more difficult to recognize becauseof significant uncertainties in their location and...
