چکیده

Lipomatous hypertrophy of the interatrial septum (LHIS) is usually an incidentally detected benign disorder which is asymptomatic in most of the cases. On the other hand, cardiac lipomas are rare benign cardiac tumors. In transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) of a 77-year-old male patient, who was admitted with the complaint of dyspnea, homogeneous hypertrophic interatrial septum (IAS) was observed. Transesophageal echocardiography (TOE) detected a mass lesion on IAS in addition to LHIS. In cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), LHIS and an 18*16 mm diameter mass in line with lipoma was observed in interatrial septum. Cardiac lipomas and LHIS are often benign formations yet they may require surgery in circumstances such as being symptomatic and/or large in diameter. Cardiac MRI, TTE, and TOE images of a patient with LHIS and interatriyal septal lipoma extending into right atrial cavity are presented in this paper.

Lipomatous hypertrophy of the interatrial septum is an uncommon entity that usually occurs in elderly patients. We report a patient who presented with atrial fibrillation, congestive cardiac failure and a large intracavitary mass in the right atrium on echocardiography. He underwent successful resection of the mass with septal reconstruction. Pathology was consistent with lipomatous hypertrophy...

Compression of the Superior Vena Cava by an Interatrial Septal Lipoma: A Case Report

Primary cardiac tumours are rare; their prevalence ranges from 0.0017% to 0.28% in various autopsy series. Cardiac lipomas are well-encapsulated benign tumours typically composed of mature fat cells, and their reported size ranges from 1 to 15 cm. They are usually seen in the left ventricle and the right atrium. Lipomas are true neoplasms, as opposed to lipomatous hypertrophy of the interatrial...

Epicardial lipomatous hypertrophy mimicking pericardial effusion: characterization with cardiovascular magnetic resonance.

A 62-year-old man with no history of cardiac disease was referred because of exertional dyspnea. His body mass index was elevated at 29 kg/m, and a large cutaneous lipoma was present on his abdominal wall. Transthoracic echocardiography was performed and initially reported to demonstrate a moderate-sized global pericardial effusion (Figure 1 and Movies 1 and 2). Consideration was given to peric...
