Molecular dynamics computer simulations are employed to probe processes taking place during continuous irradiation of Ag(1 1 1) surface by keV Ar872 projectiles. Surface modification, the total sputtering yield, and the angular distributions of ejected species are calculated at fluences ranging from 0 up to 6 10 impacts/cm. It has been shown that two trends can be identified in the development of surface roughness. At the beginning surface roughness increases fast. This fast increase terminates around 1 10 impacts/cm and is followed by a slow increase that finally saturates. The effect of the surface roughness on the sputtering yield depends on the impact angle. At normal incidence the sputtering yield is rather insensitive to the development of the surface topography. Modification of the surface morphology has, however, a significant influence on the total sputtering yield at large impact angles. Both the shape of the sputtering yield dependence on the impact angle and the angular spectra of ejected particles are sensitive to the surface roughness. 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Micro-channels over the glass surface made by interaction of Ar+ laser beam and Ag+/Na+ ion-exchanged glasses
Micro-channels are made over the Ag+/Na+ ion-exchanged soda-lime glass surface by interaction of an intense Ar+ laser beam and the silver ions inside the glass matrix. The Ar+ laser beam reduces the Ag+ ions inside the matrix. The Ag+ atoms aggregate into silver nano-clusters around the interaction area, inside the glass matrix. Aggregation of the silver atoms and the thermal effects of the int...
متن کاملStudy of interaction of high-power Ar laser beam with Ag-doped glass
In this work, we have investigated the interaction of a high-power Ar+ laser beam, in a continuous multi-line regime, with Ag+-doped glass samples. The samples were subjected to the irradiation after the ion-exchange step. As a result of the irradiation, a peak appears in the absorption spectrum; its evolution depends on both the exposure time and the laser beam power. Interaction of the beam w...
متن کاملMolecular Dynamics Study of the Effect of Surface Topography on Sputtering Induced by 20 keV Au3 and C60 Clusters†
Molecular dynamics computer simulations are employed to investigate, at the atomic scale, the process of Ag(111) surface erosion stimulated by continuous bombardment by 20-keV Au3 and C60 clusters at 0° and 70° impact angles. The surface modification, the total sputtering yield, and the kinetic energy and angular distributions of ejected species are calculated at fluences ranging from 0 up to ∼...
متن کاملEffect of Grazing Angle Cross-Ion Irradiation on Ag Thin Films
Apart from the spherical shape, control over other shapes is a technical challenge in synthesis approaches of nanostructures. Here, we studied the effect of grazing angle cross-irradiation Ag thin films for the nanostructures evolution from a top-down approach. Ag thin films of different thicknesses were deposited on Si (100) and glass substrates by electron beam evaporation system and subseque...
متن کاملSurface deposition and imaging of large Ag clusters formed in He droplets.
The utility of a continuous beam of He droplets for the assembly and surface deposition of Ag(N) clusters, ~ 300-6000, is studied with transmission electron microscopy. Images of the clusters on amorphous carbon substrates obtained at short deposition times have provided for a measure of the size distribution of the metal clusters. The average sizes of the deposited clusters are in good agr...
