The discontinuous conduction mode Sepic and Cuk power factor preregulators: analysis and design
نویسندگان
چکیده
Sepic and Ćuk converters working as power factor preregulators (PFP) in discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) present the following desirable characteristics for a PFP: 1) the converter works as a voltage follower (no current loop is needed); 2) theoretical power factor is unity; and 3) the input current ripple is defined at the design stage. Besides, input-output galvanic isolation is easily obtained. This paper analyzes the operation of both converters as DCM–PFP. Design equations are derived, as well as a small-signal model to aid the control loop design. Both simulation and experimental results are presented that are in agreement with the theoretical analysis and complement the work.

Design Criteria for Sepic and Cuk Converters as Power Factor Preregulators in Discontinuous Conduction Mode
Power Factor Preregulators (PFP) have been used to improve input current waveform of off-line power supplies. There are two major approaches in implementing control circuits in PFP: the multiplier approach and the voltage-follower approach. The simplest one is the voltage-follower approach because the converter operates in discontinuous conduction mode (DCM), and only one loop control is requir...
متن کاملAn Interleaved Configuration of Modified KY Converter with High Conversion Ratio for Renewable Energy Applications; Design, Analysis and Implementation
In this paper, a new high efficiency, high step-up, non-isolated, interleaved DC-DC converter for renewable energy applications is presented. In the suggested topology, two modified step-up KY converters are interleaved to obtain a high conversion ratio without the use of coupled inductors. In comparison with the conventional interleaved DC-DC converters such as boost, buck-boost, SEPIC, ZETA a...

This work was supported by CNPq. Dr. Spiazzi visit to the University of Campinas was supported by FAPESP. Abstract The effects of a non negligible source impedance, due to the presence of an input EMI filter, on the stability of Power Factor Preregulators with average current control are analyzed by using a State Space Averaged model. The modeling allows to derive a simple expression for the lo...
متن کاملPower factor improvement using DCM Cuk converter with coupled inductor - Electric Power Applications, IEE Proceedings-
Most of the power factor regulator topologies in continuous conduction mode result in bulky magnetics, and in discontinuous conduction mode result in high harmonic content. To solve these problems a Cuk topology is presented in discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) with coupled inductors for power factor regulation, the unique feature exhibited by the converter that makes the converter better tha...
متن کاملDesign and Simulation of New Efficient Bridgeless AC- DC CUK Rectifier for PFC Application
This project proposes a new AC-DC bridgeless CUK rectifier. The new bridgeless single-phase AC–DC power factor correction (PFC) rectifiers based on CUK topology are proposed. The absence of an input diode bridge and the presence of only two semiconductor switches in the current flowing path during each interval of the switching cycle result in less conduction losses compared to the conventional...
