CS 348b Final Project: Cloth Rendering

چکیده

In order to produce convincing renders of woven cloth, it is not only necessary to properly simulate the physics of cloth, but also its texture. Because cloth often consists of very specular fibers, exhibits both smalland large-scale detail, and is modulated by view and light directions in an unusual manner, it is very hard to simulate with simple texture maps. Moreover, it is currently infeasible to simulate the geometry of cloth directly, except in a few cases where the individual threads are very large. I implemented the recently developed analytic BTF model of [Irawan 2008] in PBRT. This model convincingly modeled the overall appearance of cloth. In addition, as an improvement to the model, we propose a simple, analytic self-shadowing component that allows for a more realistic appearance when threads are viewed at larger scale, suggesting that inter-thread interactions can also be simply described in this analytic framework.
