Idiopathic myointimal hyperplasia of mesenteric veins and pneumatosis intestinalis: a previously unreported association.

چکیده
Idiopathic myointimal hyperplasia of mesenteric veins is a very rare disease occurring in young male patients, with no more than eight cases reported in the world literature. It causes venous ischemia in the sigmoid colon and rectum that clinically resembles inflammatory bowel disease. Pneumatosis intestinalis is also a rare condition usually associated to a wide range of diseases including bowel ischemia. We herein report on a case of pneumatosis intestinalis associated to idiopathic myointimal hyperplasia of mesenteric veins. To our knowledge, this is the first report of such an association, and the first one of idiopathic myointimal hyperplasia of mesenteric veins occurring in a female patient as well.

Idiopathic Myointimal Hyperplasia of Mesenteric Veins of the Ileum and Colon in a Patient with Crohn's Disease: A Case Report and Brief Review of the Literature
Idiopathic myointimal hyperplasia of the mesenteric veins (IMHMV) is a rare disease characterized by intimal smooth muscle proliferation, leading to the thickening of small to medium-sized mesenteric veins. This vascular disease mimics inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) clinically and endoscopically, while showing ischemic mucosal changes without the classic features of IBD on biopsy. Given the m...
متن کاملSegmental colitis caused by idiopathic myointimal hyperplasia of mesenteric veins.
Diseases causing colonic ischemia may be mistaken with other causes of segmental colitis such as inflammatory bowel disease, especially in young patients. The authors present the case of a 47-year-old male with severe proctosigmoiditis. Assessment excluded infectious causes, thrombophilia and systemic vasculitis. The initial histological specimen was suggestive of inflammatory bowel disease and...

متن کاملA rare cause of ischemic proctosigmoiditis: idiopathic myointimal hyperplasia of mesenteric veins.
Ischemic proctosigmoiditis is an uncommon entity in colon ischemia because it is usually associated with an extensive arterial network. Here we report a case of idiopathic myointimal hyperplasia of the mesenteric veins (IMHMV), a very rare cause of mesenteric ischemia, which typically contributes to proctosigmoiditis. A 60-year-old man presented with a 1month history of lower abdominal pain, bl...
متن کاملIdiopathic Myointimal Hyperplasia of the Mesenteric Veins
A 65-year-old man with no significant past medical history was admitted to an outside hospital with 1.5 months of crampy, lower abdominal pain associated with rectal urgency and tenesmus. Initial computed tomography showed thickening of his rectosigmoid and mid to distal descending colon; follow-up colonoscopy revealed inflammation of the affected areas with focal lamina propria vascular conges...
