چکیده

Background The degree and quantification of contractile dysfunction and myocardial scar in patients after acute myocardial infarction (AMI) has important prognostic implications. Myocardial deformation parameters like strain and strain rate have been shown to be more sensitive markers for contractile dysfunction than standard 2-D parameters. We sought to investigate whether strain and strain rate imaging, assessed by a novel non-invasive post-processing feature tracking algorithm (FTI) on pre-acquired regular CMR SSFP images, would allow quantification of regional left ventricular (LV) function and its relation to degrees of infarct trans-murality in patients after AMI.

Role of Fructose as a Potent Antiarrhythmic and Anti-infarct agent in Isolated Rat Heart

In the current study, effects of acute short term administration of fructose on cardiac arrhythmias and myocardial infarction size following ischemia/reperfusion were investigated in isolated rat heart. The hearts were subjected to 30 min zero flow global ischemia followed by 120 min reperfusion. In the control group, the hearts were perfused by normal drug free Krebs-Henseleit (K/H) solution t...

Prediction of long-term cardiac events by 123I-MIBG imaging after acute myocardial infarction and reperfusion therapy

Objective(s): In heart failure, the heart-to-mediastinum (H/M) ratio of the delayed image and washout rate (WR) are well-known as a powerful cardiac event predictors. H/M ratio quantifies the accumulation rate of MIBG in the myocardium and WR quantifies reduction of meta-iodobenzylguanidine (MIBG) accumulation in the heart from the early planar image to the delayed pla...

Troponin for the estimation of infarct size: what have we learned?

In acute myocardial infarction (AMI), the extent of myocardial damage is closely linked to prognosis. Early determination of infarct size is therefore key to assessing the future risk of patients and instructive for optimization of therapeutic strategies. The cardiac troponins, by allowing the physician to track the extent of injury suffered by the myocardium, provide a window into the heart. T...

Global longitudinal strain measured by two-dimensional speckle tracking echocardiography is closely related to myocardial infarct size in chronic ischaemic heart disease.

2D-STE (two-dimensional speckle tracking echocardiography) is a novel echocardiographic modality that enables angle-independent assessment of myocardial deformation indices. In the present study, we tested whether peak systolic epsilon(parallel) (longitudinal strain) values measured by 2D-STE could identify areas of MI (myocardial infarction) as determined by CE MRI (contrast-enhanced magnetic ...
