Institutional Repository Faces in motion : age - related changes in eyewitness identi
نویسندگان
چکیده
The identification performance of children (5 to 6 years, n = 180; 9to 10years, n = 180) and adults (n = 180) was examined using three types of video lineup procedures: simultaneous, sequential and elimination. Participants viewed a videotaped staged theft and then attempted to identify the culprit from a target-present or target-absent video lineup. Correct identifications in simultaneous and elimination video lineups did not differ as a function of age. The sequential video lineup was associated with a reduction in correct identifications for both child groups compared to adults. With respect to the target-absent lineup condition, the video elimination lineup was associated with an increase in correct rejection rates for adult witnesses. Age was also significantly associated with accuracy. Differences in correct rejection rates were observed between adults and children and also between the two child groups. Implications and future directions are discussed.

Developmental improvement and age-related decline in unfamiliar face matching.
Age-related changes have been documented widely in studies of face recognition and eyewitness identification. However, it is not clear whether these changes arise from general developmental differences in memory or occur specifically during the perceptual processing of faces. We report two experiments to track such perceptual changes using a 1-in- 10 (experiment 1) and 1-in-1 (experiment 2) mat...

The fairness of eyewitness identi®cation lineups is assessed through the use of a series of fairness measures. All the measures proposed to date are based on the lineup choices of `mock witnesses'. Mock witnesses are persons who have not previously seen the oender but who have been given information about him, usually a verbal description. In a fair lineup mock witness choices should be distri...

Editorial Does Cognitive Aging Affect Eyewitness Recall and Testimony? T hE psychological science of aging has a long history of serving as the foundation for developing ways to combat or compensate for the effects of cognitive aging, especially for memory changes with aging (Reuter-Lorenz & Park, 2010). There are briefer but established efforts to bring our science to bear on devising age-frie...

متن کاملEvent-Related Potential Correlates of Long-Term Memory for Briefly Presented Faces
Electrophysiological studies have investigated the nature of face recognition in a variety of paradigms; some have contrasted famous and novel faces in explicit memory paradigms, others have repeated faces to examine implicit memory/priming. If the general finding that implicit memory can last for up to several months also holds for novel faces, a reliable measure of it could have practical app...
