چکیده

The influence of a higher harmonic rf system was considered previously(l) but was treated as a non-accelerating system. This note treats the higher harmonic system more generally and treats the non-linear synchrotron oscillations without the use of a power series expansion. The rf voltage seen by the beam is assumed to be the sum of one or two rf systems with a harmonic relationship to each other, given by the integer n) 1. The frequencies are then f2 = nf 1 • Although this need not be the case (i.e., f1 and f2 need only be harmonically related to f o)' operationally this harmonic relationship makes the rf systems easier to phase lock and assures that all buckets will have similar properties. The voltage provided by this rf system is v (4)) (1) where 4>1 the synchronous phase of the main rf system 4>2 = the synchronous phase of the n-th harmonic rf system V1 = the peak voltage of the main rf system kV 1 the peak voltage of the n-th harmonic rf system.

RF Noise Suppression for the APS Storage Ring

In a synchrotron, amplitude and phase noise in the radio-frequency (RF) system leads to timing jitter and energy fluctuations of the beam, which in turn cause orbital motion in dispersive regions. Electrical components in the RF system inevitably contain 60 Hz harmonic noise from the AC power grid. To suppress 60 Hz related noise, an adaptive notch filter was developed, implemented, and tested ...

Fault Locating in High Voltage Transmission Lines Based on Harmonic Components of One-end Voltage Using Random Forests

In this paper, an approach is proposed for accurate locating of single phase faults in transmission lines using voltage signals measured at one-end. In this method, harmonic components of the voltage signals are extracted through Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) and are normalized by a transformation. The proposed fault locator, which is designed based on Random Forests (RF) algorithm, is train...

Operation of the Aps Rf Gun

The Advanced Photon Source (APS) has a thermioniccathode rf gun system capable of providing beam to the APS linac. The gun system consists of a 1.6-cell thermionic-cathode rf gun, a fast kicker for beam current control, and an alpha magnet for bunch compression and injection into the APS linac line. This system is intended for use both as an injector for positron creation, and as a first beam s...

The Drive Laser for the APS LEUTL FEL Rf Photoinjector

The APS LEUTL free-electron laser (FEL) is a high-gain, short-wavelength device requiring a high-current, low-emittance beam. An rf photoinjector driven by a laser is used to provide the requisite beam. The drive laser consists of a diode-pumped Nd:Glass oscillator and a chirped pulse amplification (CPA) system consisting of a grating stretcher, a flashlamp-pumped Nd:Glass regenerative amplifie...

An Overview of the Aps 352-mhz Rf Systems

The Advanced Photon Source (APS) is a 7-GeV full energy positron storage ring for generating synchrotron radiation with an injector. The booster synchrotron rf system consists of a single 1-MW klystron which drives four five-cell cavities at 352 MHz. The storage ring cavities consist of four groups of four single cells powered by two 1-MW klystrons for 100-mA operation. An overview of the opera...
