Population Growth as a Nonlinear Stochastic Process

چکیده
The evolution of the probability density of a biological population is described using nonlinear stochastic differential equations for the growth process and the related Fokker-Planck equations for the time-dependent probability densities. It is shown that the effect of the initial conditions disappears rapidly from the evolution of the mean of the process. But the behaviour of the variance depends on the initial condition. It may monotonically increase, reaching its maximum in the steady state, or have a rather complicated evolution reaching the maximum near the point where growth rates (not population size) is maximal. The variance then decreases to its steady-state value. This observation has implications for risk assessments associated with growing populations, such as microbial populations, which cause food poisoning if the population size reaches a critical level. @ 2003 Elsevier Ltd. Wilson wavelets for solving nonlinear stochastic integral equations
A new computational method based on Wilson wavelets is proposed for solving a class of nonlinear stochastic It^{o}-Volterra integral equations. To do this a new stochastic operational matrix of It^{o} integration for Wilson wavelets is obtained. Block pulse functions (BPFs) and collocation method are used to generate a process to forming this matrix. Using these basis functions and their operat...
متن کاملDynamical Control of Computations Using the Family of Optimal Two-point Methods to Solve Nonlinear Equations
One of the considerable discussions for solving the nonlinear equations is to find the optimal iteration, and to use a proper termination criterion which is able to obtain a high accuracy for the numerical solution. In this paper, for a certain class of the family of optimal two-point methods, we propose a new scheme based on the stochastic arithmetic to find the optimal number of iterations in...
متن کاملEconomic Growth as a Nonlinear and Discontinuous Process
Structural changes were the main focus of many studies in recent years. Changes which alter the socio-economic status of a nation from deprived and traditional nature to a developed and modern one. The main hypothesis of this study is that, the economic development does not occur through a regular flow of life (linear fashion), and without resilience, but it certainly needs to pass through a mo...
متن کاملNew Statistical Methods for Analysis of Historical Data from Wildlife Populations
Population time series data from field studies are complex and statistical analysis requires models that describe nonlinear population dynamics and observational errors. State-space formulations of stochastic population growth models have been used to account for measurement error caused by the data collection process. Parameter estimation, inference, and prediction are all sensitive to measure...
متن کاملStochastic differential inclusions of semimonotone type in Hilbert spaces
In this paper, we study the existence of generalized solutions for the infinite dimensional nonlinear stochastic differential inclusions $dx(t) in F(t,x(t))dt +G(t,x(t))dW_t$ in which the multifunction $F$ is semimonotone and hemicontinuous and the operator-valued multifunction $G$ satisfies a Lipschitz condition. We define the It^{o} stochastic integral of operator set-valued stochastic pr...
