The Metal-insulator Transition in the Expanded Metals
نویسندگان
چکیده
The Landau theory of phase transition is extended to include the singular free-energy due to a metal-insulator (MI) transition and to discuss the condensation caused by this. Some relation is pointed out between the behaviours in T > Tc and those in T < Tc. One sees what type of singularity the idealized model of the electron system is desired to derive in order to explain the experimental facts in the supercritical region.

Manganites are considered as subbranches of condensed matter physics with a great wealth of physical mechanisms. In this investigation we have studied the structural, electrical and magnetic properties of a series of La1-xCaxMnO3 manganite with x=0.1, 0.2, …,0.5. We observed that the crystal structure of this manganite, with small dopping, at room temperature is orthorhombic and by increasi...
متن کاملSuperconducting ‘‘metals’’ and ‘‘insulators’’
We propose a characterization of zero-temperature phases in disordered superconductors on the basis of the nature of quasiparticle transport. In three-dimensional systems, there are two distinct phases in close analogy to the distinction between normal metals and insulators: the superconducting ‘‘metal’’ with delocalized quasiparticle excitations and the superconducting ‘‘insulator’’ with local...
متن کاملMetal-Insulator and Superconductor-Insulator Transitions in Correlated Electron Systems
Quantum transitions between the Mott insulator and metals by controlling filling in two-dimensional square lattice are characterized by a large dynamical exponent z = 4 where the origin of unusual metallic properties near the Mott insulator are ascribed to the proximity of the transition. The scaling near the transition indicates the formation of flat dispersion area due to singular momentum de...
متن کاملTowards first-principles understanding of the metal-insulator transition in fluid alkali metals.
By treating the electron-ion interaction as a perturbation in the first-principles Hamiltonian, we have calculated the density response functions of a fluid alkali metal to find an interesting charge instability due to anomalous electronic density fluctuations occurring at some finite wavevector Q in a dilute fluid phase above the liquid-gas critical point. Since |Q| is smaller than the diamete...
متن کاملFate of Quasiparticle at Mott Transition and Interplay with Lifshitz Transition Studied by Correlator Projection Method
Filling-control metal-insulator transition on the two-dimensional Hubbard model is investigated by using the correlator projection method, which takes into account momentum dependence of the free energy beyond the dynamical mean-field theory. The phase diagram of metals and Mott insulators is analyzed. Lifshitz transitions occur simultaneously with metal-insulator transitions at large Coulomb r...
