چکیده
This special issue is comprised primarily of papers presented at 3rd INTAS (International Association for the promotion of co-operation with scientists from the New Independent States of the former Soviet Union) workshop on ‘‘Flux and Concentration Footprints’’ held at the Hyytiälä Forestry Field Station in Juupajoki, Finland. The workshop attracted scientists from ten countries and it was the final workshop of the project ‘‘Random walk models for the footprint problem in the turbulent atmosphere’’ funded by INTAS from 2000 to 2003. The seven research groups, involved in the project, came from Helsinki (Timo Vesala, University of Helsinki; coordinator), Novosibirsk (Karl Sabelfeld, Institute of Computational Mathematics and Mathematical Geophysics), Moscow (Vitaly Kukharets, Obukhov Institute of Atmospheric Physics), Ashgabad (Orazgeldy Kurbanmuradov, Physico-Technical Scientific Centre ‘‘Climate’’), Bayreuth (Thomas Foken, University of Bayreuth), Berlin (Wolfgang Wagner, Weierstrass Institute of Applied Analysis and Stochastics) and Roskilde (Niels-Otto Jensen, Risø National Laboratory). The present volume forms a collection of eight papers ranging from fundamental concepts to dispersion experiments.

Evaluation of backward and forward Lagrangian footprint models in the surface layer
We ran a Lagrangian stochastic (LS) dispersion model in both forward-in-time and backward-in-time ways to derive footprints. Three Eulerian analytical footprint models were compared with this Lagrangian model for a wide atmospheric stability range. Despite some differences among the three analytical footprint models, their results generally agreed. Results from the forward LS simulations agreed...
متن کاملDetermining carbon isotope signatures from micrometeorological measurements: Implications for studying biosphere–atmosphere exchange processes
In recent years considerable effort has been focused on combining micrometeorological and stable isotope techniques to partition net fluxes and to study biosphere–atmosphere exchange processes. While much progress has been achieved over the last decade, some new issues are beginning to emerge as technological advances, such as laser spectroscopy, permit isotopic fluxes to be measured more easil...
متن کاملFabrication of (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene/Poly Ethylene Glycol) Nanofiltration Membrane: the Effect of PEG Concentration and Operating Conditions on Membrane Performance
In the current research, ABS-co-PEG nanofiltration membrane was prepared by solution casting technique using N, N dimethyl acetamide as solvent. The effect of PEG concentration as additive in the casting solution on membrane flux, salt rejection, phase inversion time, water content, membrane porosity, membrane tensile strength and fouling was studied. Also the eff...
متن کاملHeat-flux footprints for I-mode and EDA H-mode plasmas on Alcator C-Mod
IR thermography is used to measure the heat flux footprints on C-Mod’s outer target in Imode and EDA H-mode plasmas. The footprint profiles are fit to a function with a simple physical interpretation. The fit parameter that is sensitive to the power decay length into the SOL, λSOL, is ~1-3x larger in I-modes than in H-modes at similar plasma current, which is the dominant dependence for the H-m...
